Re: Golden Valley new loco

Is this a variant on the Hornby designed rod couple Sentinel. Up to now they have been distributing Hornby International products from Electrotren , given a UK livery but still H0. It would be an obvious choice for production. Electrotren/Hornby's manufacturer seems to have expertise in smaller mec...

Re: Latest on Hornby takeover/buyout

They both behaved as though the other didn't exist. Meccano tried to limit sales to one established shop (often a toy shop) per town, whilst Rovex were happy to supply Triang to any shop who wanted to sell them, (frequently small model shops who Meccano wouldn't supply) the only form of control the...

Re: Latest on Hornby takeover/buyout

Frank Hornby has no connection with the present company. The Hornby name was used when the Tri-ang side of the business was split in the 70`s after one of the receiverships. I actually meant as the founder to see what it has become. A game of numbers rather than an enjoyable hobby manufacturer. Sam...

Re: Track pins

I've never expected a track pin to go in without a hole being drilled through the sleeper first. My problem relates to the fine ones (0.22" diameter, 9/16" long, Peco ref SL-14) which, as I have just now checked, are soft enough to bend easily into a right-angle with just fingers and thum...

Re: (Yet) Another One Bites the Dust

I think model shops need to carefully think out what stock they should be carrying, they are always going to struggle to compete with the so called "box shifters" for market share on big ticket items like locomotives and rolling stock. I would argue that the shop that concentrates on stoc...

Re: Peco SL-500 & SL-100

They're different guage right? SL-500 is narrow? In which case the rails may well be code 100 in height, but the horizontal gap between them won't be the same. The 4' in standard guage is not the case for narrow. The track gauge is identical ie 16.5mm . SL500 is designed for 0-16.5 scale models or ...

Re: Peco SL-50 track underlay

It can rot after a few years . Peco put a warning on the packs and MAY be stopping supplying the full range of point underlay.
