Re: Yes Tor

You've done it now SRman, the subject of tenders for the Bulleid pacifics is a nightmare for modellers, as an example the Rebuilt MN class had several tender types: 5000 gallon cut down. 5100 gallon cut down with full width vacuum cylinder cover. 5100 gallon cut down with narrower vacuum cylinder co...

Re: Buying railway stuff during Covid-19 - help?

It is only the same with hardware stores such as Wickes and B&Q the store is closed to customers, but you can order pretty much everything online and do a click and collect, despite the fact that they say it is essential items only, I managed to buy treated timber for something in the garden, it...

Converting Merchant navy tender to 5250 gallon rebodied

As title suggests, this is my latest project. I purchased a short wheelbase MN tender, and the Golden Arrow Models Resin tender body for the BR Rebodied 5250 gallon tender. Extra detailing parts such as the rear ladder, and a replacement vacuum cylinder cover, wire handrails will be fitted from 0.45...

For anyone interested, here are some layout shots, some of them are black and white to give the 1956 feel:

35018 'British India Line'

As the title suggests, I would like to share with you, another project that I have been working on. As great as the Hornby Rebuilt Merchant Navy model is, it is not possible at this stage to reproduce an accurate model of the prototype Rebuilt MN, 35018, without making some modifications to the Horn...

Re: castle class TTS Sound Decoder fitting

Or another option is to mount the decoder in the loco, extend the speaker wires, and mount the speaker in the tender?

Re: Are the Hornby Schools and Merchant Navy class any good?

Have no fear about the motors in these models, they are an excellent motor, I have one of the original Clan Line models R2169, which is around 19 years old now, and still runs like a sewing machine on its original motor, it spends most of its time hauling 10 coach trains.

Re: 4 pin decoders?

Not found one, but a chap on the other site used a smaller decoder than the hornby 4 pin version, hope this helps: On reading further into this, it seems that the 4 pin socket is unique to Hornby, and the only decoder that will fit the socket is theirs, the alternative is to hardwire a different dec...

Re: Start voltage adjustment TTS decoder (rebuilt MN)

I am using the Hornby Elite, and I refer to the instructions that come with the Hornby elite controller, page 33: IMG_0078.jpg I apologise for the image quality, I did this in a hurry. Not 6 beats per wheel revolution, as you quite rightly mentioned for a 3 cylinder steam loco, it is more like 3, wh...

Start voltage adjustment TTS decoder (rebuilt MN)

This question may or may not have been asked before, but given the limited number of running adjustments that can be made via CV to a TTS decoder, what effect if any would lowering the start voltage have on the top speed of the loco? I would like my model to run slower, to try and make the chuff sou...

Re: Adding TTS Decoder to Rebuilt Merchant Navy

I get what your saying about the sugar cube speaker 8) I probably should have done the same, but I wanted to install the item as it is, granted it was a bit of an undertaking! I wanted to show what can be achieved with a little bit of forward planning for less than £40. I have messed about with the ...

Adding TTS Decoder to Rebuilt Merchant Navy

As the title suggests, this is a write up showing what I did to add a TTS sound decoder to a Rebuilt Merchant Navy, my version of the model that I chose to fit the chip into is 'R2967, 35026 Lamport & Holt Line', which is from an earlier batch of models, that are DCC ready, but are not equipped ...
