Re: Which Controller

It's a criminal offence to use unlicensed American wireless controllers, such as the one made by NCE, in the EU as they don't conform to radio frequency regulations. It's fine to use the wireless controllers made in the EU , such as those made by ESU and Roco/Fleischmann, as they do conform to the ...

Re: Which Controller

Hi, just read this on the DCC Concepts site, I assume they are not selling DCC at all ? If the information about the Roco system is over 2 years out of date, can you rely on the rest of information? DCC Concepts is a shop btw johncrazy. DCC Concepts is model shop specialising in DCC. From what I ca...

Re: Eurostar e320

I wouldn't expect the quality of any such new model to be much more than train-set standard, like their current Pendolino and Class 395. Are you referring to all of the class 395 models? Because I have the R2972 ('Sir Steve Redgrave') and it seems very different to the R1139 ('Blue Rapier') and R11...

Re: Eurostar e320

These new trains are a couple of years off, so as hairyhandedfool says, don't expect to see a 00 model before that time is near, or after they go into service. From past experience this Hornby territory, so I wouldn't expect the quality of any such new model to be much more than train-set standard, ...

Re: Which dcc controller should I go?

There has been on this forum over time that Hornby in particular had, and may still have problems, plus there limitations. There first model did not have a true digital wave signal. " Their first model" (i.e. the Select) still doesn't come up to DCC standards. I agree with the point that ...

Re: High Frequency. No DCC.

If you've already subjected that decoder to the output of a HF (so called) "track cleaner". then it may be damaged or degraded in some way.
I wouldn't buy it.

Re: Bachmann 2012 speculation thread

....Multiple Units DMU/EMU: I think if an EMU is on the cards I think is more likely to be a 444 or 450, as these are pretty close to the 350 that has just been released. A 450 would be most likely hence that we now have the 350 "dual mode" Desiro to enjoy. The Class 444 I didn't think of...

Dad-1 wrote:The move to 21 pin is forward thinking as now so many modellers want sound.

Not really forward thinking Geoff.
It appears the 21 pin connector is now out of date and many decoder manufacturers are moving over to the new connector standard.
Bachmann may be behind the drag curve on this.

Re: The Hornby VEP.. first Impressions

If all they've done is replace the corridor partitions, then that isn't much of an improvement.
I'd find it hard to believe they will re-tool the body to get the gangway ends correct, or to replace the motor and bogies. Then there's the list of other deficiencies to sort out.

Re: Hornby 2012

What's with the ex-Virgin mk3 coach pack?
Three loco hauled coaches with numbers to match and an HST TGS, numbered accordingly????????
This is just plain bizarre !!!!!!

Re-hashed old ex-Lima and ex-Airfix models litter the list and there's very little in the way of new or recent D&E.

Re: Derby to build new Trains.

According to Rail News (I think it was that I was reading yesterday - someone elses' mag!) their HQ is in Germany! Unless thats the European HQ?! Bombardier are a Canadian conglomerate, base in Montreal. Their two main divisions are Aerospace (they are primarily an aircraft manufacturer) and Transp...

Except Bombardier are Canadian. ......If only they'd start to tender for overseas contracts in a concerted effort to make the future a bit more secure... Bombardier have several factories across Europe and they produce a lot of trains for other European countries, at those continental mainla...

The Lenz Silver plus 21 pin is an excellent decoder.
An alternative is the TCS EU621, which is slightly cheaper.

Re: 21 Pin to 8 Pin - Drawbacks?

......I think the later versions of the 553 were upgraded to the higher current and back EMF , same as the 554 ...... The original version of the 36-553 (8-pin) only had 2 digit addressing. When the 4 digit address 36-554 (21-pin) was introduced later on, the 36-553 was then upgraded to 4 digit add...

Re: Lenz DCC ABC function

Firstly, from what I can gather, the new PC/Ethernet interface is in beta testing with selected users and suppliers of 3rd party applications. Already late, by some margin, it looks as if it will finally be available sometime this Autumn or later this year. Secondly, full information is avail...
