Re: Wiring decoders to older Lima models.

Most of my decoders are Lenz LE103XF or LE104XF with the plugs removed, but some were made by Bachmann. I am not sure if Lenz still make them. Those are 20 year old decoders, replaced in the mid 00's. Lenz have had 4 generations of decoder since the LE103XF & LE104XF. The decoders sold under th...

Re: Protocab control system

Wireless (high speed network). Wireless transmission of control signals directly to the loco (and trackside accessories) No handset cables. No Command Station or any expensive system boxes. The system is in the handset and the decoders (in the locos and trackside accessory decoders). https://i.ytimg...

Re: Protocab control system

.....'The solution' that I want is a completely flexible system that will run conventional DCC - or an equivalent of equal or better performance - on the powered rails, and the option for receiver/decoder with battery equipped locos: all seamlessly from a single control system: but so far no one is...

Re: Bachmann, no new OO announcements for 2020

Just to clarify. Bachman have switched from making annual announcements. From the start of 2020, they are now making quarterly announcements, the first of which was made this week at the dealers and members event (New Product Showcase), on the 5th Feb. The next New Product Showcase event will take p...

Re: DCC control of points and signals - guidance for an idiot

Switch operation of points is normally by way of switches on a mimic panel to the motor (via a cdu If solenoid). No DCC involved. If DCC is required as well as manual switching then an accessory decoder can fire into the coil of a relay which powers the point motor in parallel with any manual switc...

Re: DCC control of points and signals - guidance for an idiot

If you wish to control your points and signals by DCC, you will need accessory decoders on the layout to receive and act on the DCC commands to operate the points and signals. Sometimes these can be built in to point motors, otherwise they are freestanding modules. Operation of these points and sign...

Re: Comparison of features between ESU systems

BASIC CONTROL (a) The 50210 can keep 10 locos running simoultaneously. Can the 50310 run more than that? The manual suggests unlimited locos if power etc is adequate. The CabControl track output is slightly more powerful. Otherwise they are the same. (b) How important are the 28 functions controlle...

Re: 21 pin decoder

The latest version of Bachmann 21 pin..... It packaged somewhat different to earlier verisons.... .....quite why Bachmann did not catalogue the new version as 36-557A is distinct mystery) Rather than being a new version, it's a completely different decoder (ESU LokPilot Standard) and is not related...

Re: My layout is now DCC but....

...I have a virgin voyager, dmu class 158 and 170 which I'd like to DCC. .... Those 3 particular models are not DCC ready. In other words they are not factory fitted with a DCC socket, so will require decoders to be hard wired. That means snipping some wires inside the loco and soldering the decode...

Re: Blue Pullman retooled

There may be some substance to the theory that Bachmann are using the Western Pullman set to offload slow moving Dynamis Ultima systems. ESU stopped selling their own branded version of this system ( the Navigator), a couple of years ago, so it's only being made for Bachmann now. The Bachmann badged...

Re: Blue Pullman retooled

The price given by Bachmann is actually £949.95 :o The pre order prices being quoted include 15% discount. It does include "DCC Railcontroller" which is a £49.95 (price before any discounts) piece of software The Western Pullman set includes a Dynamis Ultima DCC system, plus trial RailCon...

Re: New WiFi Android DCC System

How is this any different to a wireless handset for digital control? I cannot see the point of it (unless it also makes and receives phonecalls). It's no different to any other DCC wireless handset, except that the user interface is far in advance than older style handsets. It really comes into its...

Re: New WiFi Android DCC System

The ESU CabControl may be new, only being announced last Autumn (October IIRC?) but it has been available in rebadged PIKO SmartControl form, for about a ŷear and a half. The wireless handsets are the same ones sold with the ESU MobileControl 2, that can be used with the ECoS system. Unlike using or...

Re: Rewiring a 21 pin to 8 pin!

One would think in this day and age there could be an industry standard reliable edge plug connector for decoders, similar to pc memory storage/sim cards. Edge connectors are not quite as reliable as plug and socket connections when a reasonable current is involved, and the PluX socket range define...
