GWR BUFFER BEAM NUMBERS

I know that halls had a number on the RH side of the front buffer beam and that tank engines had front and back buffer beam numbers
but can anybody tell me if there was a number at the rear of the tender locos and if so which side was it on?
TIA

Re: Inter-city HST 125 3 Pole motor

Spares are available. East kent models have spare armature bearings (S2371)and normally brass gears (s2290) or X8840 for a packet of ten. They are on 07854 094640 tue-thurs 10:00 -16. and Fri 10.00- 13.00 but be quick they are in the process of selling up! I would also get a packet of brushes and sp...

Re: Inter-city HST 125 3 Pole motor

Screaming noise? It may be worth trying a drop of oil at the other end of the commutator axle from the pinion gear. This can cure it. where it goes through the plastic cover I assume you have already piled the pinion gear end. I use the hypodermic type of dropper which I think Expo do. To remove the...

Re: Best decoder for older locomotives?

I have a large number of old margate locos, 3 pole tender drive or even X03/4 loco drive. Done 5MTs, 0-6-0s, Britannias, Patriots,9Fs. I have always hard wired Zimo MX623 decoders because they can be personalised for each loco.(I can recommend a supplier who gives excellent after sales) However befo...

Hornby R2083. LMS Black 5 tender

I bought an R2083 body in excellent condition - LMS Black 5 body running no 5379. I put it on a spare chassis with correct valve gear and did up a spare tender chassis. Runs fine. Now the problem I have is a tender body. Photos appear to show and all black LMS tender top with just LMS on the side ma...

Re: Hornby DC to DCC

I DCCed Percy and Thomas getting rid of all the capacitors. Percy was the hardest! Percy was harder than thomas. I have only used Zimo and Lenz. Why?It is what you can individually tailor with each loco. With DCC chips you pay for what you get. I used Zimo MX623s hard wired. I would not use hornby (s...

Re: Tender Drive dcc problem

You are lucky this is the easiest to convert provided that your loco runs well under DC? (and I have just realised that 2 colleagues are quicker than me in replying) As I said previously the red lead spade connector solders to the red lead of the chip. Isolate the soldered joint with heatshrink/insu...

Re: Tender Drive dcc problem

I have successfuly DCCed an evening star (and other 9Fs)- not really a problem. What would enable us to help you is if you could point out the type of cover plate and motor block you have. Quite often on older hornby engines there is a black wire from the LH brush plate (spade connection) to the cha...

Re: Ringfield Pinion Gear Loose

To do this yourself you will need a good small vice, small pin hammer ( I use a 4oz) and a small ring spanner (no.4). I take off all the stuff from the motor block (black metal thing) so remove brass gear holder, gears and wheels. I use a flat broad bladed screw driver to get the wheels off and lever...

Re: Capacitor removal on Britannia "Anzac"

This would still leave the capacitor in circuit?? So having found a diagram of a typical NMRA DCC socket the red wire is motor right (orange) and the black is motor left (gray). Desoldering capacitor and resoldering red and black wires to brush covers worked OK under DCC. Useful diagram:- DCC 8 pin ...

Capacitor removal on Britannia "Anzac"

So I went to plug a DCC chip into the socket on my DCC ready R2457 Anzac and noticed the capacitor soldered to the brush arms. Right I'll desolder that I thought. Then I noticed a red wire from the PCB near the number 1 (arrowed on photo) and a black wire soldered to near the R (arrowed on photo) on...

Making cab handrails

I have a number of triang halls and hornby patriots without cab handrails. They are not available as spares. I have made one using a brass wire and a homemade pin jig (not brilliant but works)but was wondering if modellers are aware of any commercial jigs available that could do the job more effecti...
