Re: BASIC N Questions.

Still thinking... painful, innit? Decided that, despite the undoubted attractions of "around and around", in the space I'd planned it simply would not look "right" to me. Plan 2 therefore is end to end: I just happen to have 12' x 15" available. The vision (!) starts with a ...

Ply top?

Having decided that space constraints rule out (for me) an N tail chaser in 5'x 3', found an alternative home for end-to-end, near 12' x 15". Start will be "station" in 6' x 15". What thickness ply recommended for top, please? It will sit on an existing (sturdy) shelf same size, ...

Re: Timmo's N Gauge Layout - New Track and Station on P.3

New here and, essentially, to layout planning/building so reading every Thread I can find on "N". I also was about to ask "dimensions" and had assumed that larger than 1500x850! It looks simply excellent - yet I get the feeling that many layouts appear a little over-crowded: is t...

Re: BASIC N Questions.

Makes sense! I am at least quite quickly coming to the conclusion that a double track loop in the space available is really not very sensible - and that anything less than "4th radius" equivalent is not, for me, a starter. Ah well, better to figure this out BEFORE I spend any cash! While I...

Re: BASIC N Questions.

FWIW, a quick 'n' dirty "trial" with 27mm spacing and an inner radius of 12" and an outer of 12"+27mm (!) gives a min 3mm gap with a Farish 57' bogie van and a Farish 63' Mk1 coach! So I'd guess that 12" is the tightest at which could tolerate 27mm spacing?

Re: BASIC N Questions.

Cheap enough certainly! But do the 3 different "size" Code 55 points give the same c to c measurement? Presumably laying the associated curves to the same dimension will cause overhang problems in tighter radii?

Re: BASIC N Questions.

I'd found that site, but doesn't seem to include "spacing" - altho' I may well not be understanding the terminology!

Re: BASIC N Questions.

And more "thanks"!

Is there a source of info on c to c dimensions for different points when laid as a facing pair to aid planning (too grand a word, really!) other than just buying a set or two?

Re: BASIC N Questions.

Thanks all! I would use electro-frogs - that much I do remember from past experience. As to spacing, I'd assumed that centre-to-centre distances between the different radii setrack curves are near enough the minimum to allow passing stock. If med radius are "closer" is that a problem? Is n...

BASIC N Questions.

OK - VERY basic - but then my first Post on a model rlwy Forum! While I am still undecided as to scale/gauge etc, one possibility is N - mainly because I have as new 3 locos and a fair amount of stock. Selling these to raise funds is not a starter as all were presents! With 5' x 2'7" to attack ...
