Re: Grain of Wheat Bulbs
If soldered in a 'chain' they are in series so 2 x 6 volt lamps can be supplied by a 12 volt supply. If you 'chain' [series] 3 together with 12 volts I/P then each lamp will have 8 volts across it. The bulb type fairy lights are usually 40 x 6v. bulbs so 240 volt I/P, the 20 bulb sets 12 volt bulbs ...

Re: T/T well construction
That's the idea Pete, far more accurate even if mounting a jigsaw on a piece of thin board to radius on a 'nail'. but if the T/Tbearing unit is fitted and used as the pivot as good as a lathe could produce. I would imagine its making this that puts many off a kit built T/T. A small bench drill is re...

Re: Grain of Wheat Bulbs
I have a 'draw full' of PSU plug in type. phone, camera, pc peripherals ,etc charger units of varying O/P voltages all obtained from boot sales for usually 50p very useful for determining what voltage you may need. Many similar are on the layout for items like crossing gates, T/T, signals, lighting e...

Re: Grain of Wheat Bulbs
What about LED's with a 'cover' of a 'Quality Street' wrapper, Or old Fairy lights from the local boot sale if you want filament lamps, often £1.00 or less a set if you 'canibalise' the good bulbs. although bit difficult to solder.again a reduced voltage and they will last. Beeman.

T/T well construction
Advice here on how to build a T/T well using a small bench type pillar drill. A piece of flat ply or chipboard is bolted to the drill table with a central hole/spindle so that the work piece can be rotated by hand, the periphery being machined by the router bit by turning slowly by hand. The walls o...

Re: Anyone sometimes feel that they have/buy too much stock?
Re 'Boxcar Willie' [quote] have something like 9 guitars, a bass, a mandola, two mandolins, two bouzoukis, a sitar, a balalaika, an Appalachian dulcimer, a Serbian tambourica and even a dan-bau from Vietnam. Then there's the small mountain of recording equipment and amplifiers. It's a disease.. [quo...

Re: More Mainline Mogul Madness
Think both Mainline and Replica were built by the same Hong Kong firm, the Replica 'Pod' motor the better, being a separate complete unit but both suffered from the gearing between the motor to axle. and both from the axle bushes splitting both in manufacture and ageing. This was an early Mainline p...

Re: coach lighting
Word of advice here re the pressure of the pickups on the coach wheels. If all 8 wheels have pickups on each coach, it should make flicker free, but will act as brakes if not very lightly adjusted and reduce the pull of the loco. Beeman.

Re: Blue Pullman Max Speed
On what has been said ,Can you program other locos with your DCC controller ?, if you can, and it would appear to be working if you can 'see' some of the CV changes you say you have made, but NOT the Pullmans CV5 then I suggest you return it, Providing you have read the instructions correctly ?. Bachman WD project
This was a recent project, Difficult as the 2 boiler mouldings were well 'glued' together so not able to split to remove DC weight, had to remove front/smokebox door to mill out section inside, 'tongue in cheek' job. also almost nil room for firebox led so had to project led into cab,and not noticea...

Re: dc with stay alive, is it possible
So if this was done It was suggested by someone that the easiest method may be to fit an ordinary DCC decoder with stay alive unit to the dc model, as DCC models will normally run perfectly well on dc. no reason to not go to DCC. However for good running whether DC or DCC multiple pickups are always...

Re: coal
There was a 'synthetic coal' some 30 odd years back, or should I say solid fuel made from oil refinery sludge, Absolutely excellent against the other 'muck' sold like 'Rexco', remember,.This created such heat the firebars in solid fuel stoves could be burnt out.And like many other 'good' things seem...
