Re: Dynamis query.

Further to my orig.post. and to belay Ark Royals doubts. I recently purchased a s/h second unit 'in case', as I have converted some 40 + steam locos to dcc all using 36-553 or 554 chips..motor control only with about 6 of the older Hornby with relays, [small reed relay from Maplin], for smoke unit o...

Bach quality control

I put my christmas desire for an A2 to Santa, aka SWIMBO, prior, and low and behold I received an A1 and A2 come the morn :D .I moved all the locos off the DCC layout to give them a run on DC. The A2 initially derailing loco only. This was found to be the rear pony wheels being a little wide, simply ...

Dynamis query.

Some time back I motorised a Dapol modified Windmill. I had to hand a Bachman 36-554 chip that was defunct in one direction and decided to use this to control the mill.I set this up with the address as 32, and it worked Ok changed the motor connections so it rotated the correct way. On attempting to...

Re: WD Austerity./ bachman 36-554 chips

Thanks Bigmet , for your informative reply.the speed performance I am getting would be acceptable for a heavy goods load, although not tried it on a train of wagons as yet. I was curious why the difference between the 2 locos. One point of interest I found after posting/further checking, was that th...

WD Austerity./ bachman 36-554 chips

Any member ideas on Bachmann WD Austerities. I have 2 0f these, I have chipped both and fitted tender pickups. The tender wheel design lends itself very well having the integral axle to wheel so pickups can be off 4 of the axles.light spring wire causing little drag. That said, one version is ok, bu...

Re: ringfield conversion

I have converted quite a few ringfields. The 5 pole is available, from NRM shop , cheaper than the 3 pole . Can I respectfully suggest you type in the 'SEARCH BOX' 'Ringfield magnets', this would perhaps have answered most of your query . Most motors are ok for both d.c. and DCC. the old Xo4 type ar...

Re: G2 and 9F on second radius curves

Thought I would give update after getting my S/H MIB Austerity. I was pleased to find the later Bachman chassis, having pickups on the 8 driving wheels.Stood on track and slid along, and felt that it would negotiate my R1 curves. checked for free running initially, fitted chip. Bachman 34-554 will j...

Re: G2 and 9F on second radius curves WD 2-8-0

I am contemplating buying S/H WD 2-8-0,so this was interesting read as iI have Ri curves, I recently bought K3 & J39 both are ok & run fine, Also 4MT, the tender wheels on this did not move laterally sufficient for R1's this was rectified by drilling the axle bores deeper, particularly cente...

Re: Hornby parts

Since my previous post, I feel I should update my not so useful suggestion. I came across the 'Hornby Collectors Guide', this is an Australian site and lists , it seems, all of the Hornby locos exploded parts diagrams from way way back.and also has many of the models Hornby made for export. This cer...

Hornby parts

I am told from the guy at the 'shop' , most helpful, that the site has a donated 'wad' of parts diagrams 'In store'.May I suggest that due to Hornby NOT putting up earlier than 2000 diagrams the site create a section where these can be perused. I feel it is poor customer service on Hornbys part as t...

Re: Metcalfe coal stage

Have a look at my post on rmweb, this was under 'Metcalfe Engine Shed' or Beeman postings. the pics posted will give you some idea of the space reqd. I would think the 'design' of the coaling stage was more LMS/Midland, I recollect that in my youth the one at Coalville Leicestershire 17C. was very s...

Re: dapol turntable

Can I respectfully steer you to my posting in rmweb forums titled 'table a la carte' , this gives detail of my own t/t which was an Airfix model inverted similar to the ideas in other replies to this topic, but this is automated, and works with a total of 12 outlets, 6 are the opposing ' dead ends'....
