Re-wheeling old stock?

Hi all, as i mentioned in an earlier post ive been helping my Father build a small oval layout. A lot of his stock is old Hornby Dublo and id like to change the plastic wheels for metal as i heard that plastic wheels are bad for dirt. Ive done a few later wagons of my own with the pin point type spi...

Re: Minimum radius curves and older loco's

Thanks all, we went with 1st and 2nd radius in the end and kept the width to a minimum, its just a slight stretch to reach the back now. Weirdly at 74 its my fathers first layout! I recommended it to him as a new hobby to give him something to do over the winter months so we will see how he goes :)

Minimum radius curves and older loco's

Hi all, im building a small layout for my Father, just a basic oval twin loop using no1 and 2 curves or maybe no2 and 3, it will be against a wall on the long side so would like to keep it as narrow as poss so he can reach. Most of his stock is old Hornby/Dublo stuff so should work ok with no1 curve...

Re: Removing factory finish weathering?

Thanks all, i was bidding on a City of Nottingham but i got outbid, i think it only comes in a weathered version (this is the 2002 ish model) When i took the weathering off on my own i removed the body and used a toothbrush under hot water with a dab of cream cleaner (jif or something like that) It ...

Removing factory finish weathering?

Hi all, is it possible to remove the weathering applied on a new loco, ive got my eyes on a Hornby steam loco but i would prefer it in pristine cond or as near as. Ive removed them in the past on some ive weathered myself when i went a bit OTT with the airbrush but never tried it on a factory finish...

Re: 9f

Im looking for a 9F myself and the Legends one sounds a bargain at £50, can anyone tell me if its tender or loco drive? I did want a black one but a repaint should be simple :)

Re: Help! HM200+ Controller - Controlled Circuit....

Hi, sorry to be negative but id just skip it, i bought one a few years ago brand new via ebay, it looks nice and worked well for about 3 mths then one side just died out of the blue and wouldn't work. I asked about repairing it at a few shops but was told it would need to go back to Hornby,I emailed...

Re: Railway line info please

Thanks for the info all, ive done a bit of further research and it does seem little used, i went there today and asked a builder who was working close by how many trains he had seen, he said he hadn't seen any and was surprised himself that none had passed. Just have to make sure its not a night onl...

Re: J39 running woes

Bit of a late reply but thanks Bigmet, i stripped it down and the axles were thick with white grease so i cleaned it all up with ipa, gave the bearing surfaces a light smear and she runs lovely now :D

Re: Electronic track cleaner

Thanks for the replies all, i can confirm the track cleaner doesn't interfere with the pc :D I cant vouch for the cleaning effect yet but it certainly makes the loco's run much better at slow speed! Im very impressed i must admit :)
