Re: What? No mention of the Hornby class 66 "Captain Tom Moore ".

It amazes me why a Company stops at a figure when more people want the product. Surely the more they make, more profit would be realised. Companies should stop pampering to those wanting to 'make a fast buck'. Glencairn It depends how they're making them. Assuming that they're being done in the sam...

Re: Shortage of Peco track

Yes, Peco is closed for normal production but are making widgets (presumably with fewer staff) to stop surgical masks cutting the backs of your ears. Looks like a lazer cut plastic hook. They are also not taking new subscriptions for RM as that cant be done by staff working from home.

Re: Fitted brake vans

The LNER 20ton vans on which the BR vans were based had tall vacuum pipes standing upright from the headstock. The Bachmann LNER vans have these. The BR bauxite vans generally had the low hanging type (two slightly different designs) but these foul tension lock couplings which is why they are not us...

Re: Hornby flogging another dead horse

It might have been 11 years ago but it still sells. Come to York and see how many shops in the Shambles are catering for the HP tourist trade without actually being allowed to mention him by name - The Boy Wizard, Wizarding World, The Shop That Must Not Be Named etc. They're paying city centre rents...

Re: We need to talk about costs

These prices might seem reasonable to those in the hobby but the future of the hobby depends on new blood. But kids aren't the new blood, adult collectors/modellers with disposable income are. Not just Railways either, kids aren't buying Aifix V bombers at 60 quid a throw, and even all those pocket...

Re: We need to talk about costs

I can buy a cheap smart phone for £50. Cell phone manufacturers shift 1.5 billion units a year between them. If any model railway manufacturer in any scale could manage sales (and consequent profits) on that sort of scale then locos would be a couple of quid each by now. But they can't so they aren...

Re: Question about BR Mk1 carriages

It was possible to reserve a compartment for the conveyance of invalids, and as far as I'm aware only the CKs had them.

You could also find compartments reserved for 'Prisoners with escort' amongst other things.

Re: Just a thought...

Lineside fires aren't the issue, enthusiastic traincrew with a couple of beaters can deal with those. Moorland fires are the problem, NYMR are liable for any damaged caused to the National Park from sparks drifting outside the boundary fence.

Re: Limited edition Black 5 - a bit of a puzzle

I still don't understand what's "really poor" about it. It's got a couple of compromises on an otherwise accurate model.

Re: Limited edition Black 5 - a bit of a puzzle

If it's the non-railroad model then the tender has an odd valence under the running plate, the welded version has some extraneous rivets and the bogie wheels are a bit generic. On the plus side it's dimensionally accurate and the different topfeed, dome and wheelbase variations are faithfully captur...

Re: Railway room safety

So anyone decorating their home should be thinking the same, then... Yes, A&E departments are full of DIY experts. I presume your house has a fire extinguisher, smoke alarm, first aid kit and some means of phoning an ambulance if you need one ? If your railway room is in the house (spare bedroo...
