Re: Old Hornby Gresley 'Teaks'
I have one in regular service on which I did that trick to darken the teak. . I can't recall exactly how I did it, but I did replace the LNER lettering with BR(E) coach numbers to give it a yet to be repainted early fifties look. It runs in a rake of carmine and cream Triang Mk1 coaches, which is su...

Re: Hornby Railroad Plus Class 110
I ifully intended buying one, but the money I'd put aside had to go on household expenses. I have the old eighties green 3 car 110, which I bought a few years back, simply because I'd really wanted one as a child. Last week I decided to modify it by repainting the cab front on one end with a small y...

Re: Dapol ex Mainline Dean Goods tender drive motor
20240312_154319.jpg I've spent a couple of days searching through all my spares, and all the missing parts for the Dean Goods turned up apart from one cog. It's the same as the one pictured above. It sits behind a brass stud and drives one of the axles. I never throw anything away, so I'll keep sea...

Dapol ex Mainline Dean Goods tender drive motor
My Dapol /Mainline Dean Goods had it's motor dismantled for a service a while back, and some of the parts have gone missing. This means I'm on the look out for a complete tender drive uniy. Does anyone know if the tender drive motor in the Dapol LMS 2P is the same as the one in the Dean Goods ?. Tha...

Re: Anyone currently buying?
Not much recently. Last week I bought one of those Lima 0-4-0 diesel shunters ,which is still probably the cheapest loco you can buy. This is going to be a detailing project, and is also going to be used for replacement CD motor testing, the replacement CD motor arrived this afternoon. Also for the ...

Re: The BNR (another way)
The Airfix 4F with it's 6 wheel drive motor in the tender might be a capable loco for the branch line.

Re: Ken's workbench Bagnall meets hacksaw
My first non UK loco, a Fleischmann diesel shunter which set me back £7.50. Screenshot_20240124_171625_eBay.jpg It had been overprinted in a thick coat of blue, which took an age to remove using oven cleaner. It was then repainted with cheap acrylic paint and a coat of clear Rustoleum.. This was a b...

Hornby Railroad Plus Class 110
Has anyone here bought the new Railroad Plus Class 110 DMU ? . Over the last few weeks I've seen a few for sale with some of the big sellers on eBay, but I was surprised to see there's been no reviews on YouTube .

Re: Hattons closing down
I was very shocked to hear Hattons were closing down and I feel very sorry for their staff. I used to buy from them regularly , and there's was the website I went to first. I checked my Hattons account and found it's been nearly 2 years since I bought anything from them. This is mainly due to the fa...

Re: 2024 Range
I've just looked at the 2024 range again, this time on Hornby's website. The GWR Loriot isn't shown, so maybe that was an error.

Re: 2024 Range
I saw it on RMweb just now. Nothing really caught my eye, I did notice that the Loriot Y wagon in GWR livery is £49.99
Surely that's a mistake ? The iron ore tippler wagon costs less than half this amount at a not unreasonable £19.99.

Re: What did Santa bring you?
I received a cheque for £100. A few years ago this amount bought me 3 2nd boxed locos from the nineties, all of which were in mint condition. Now it will buy me 2 locos. The first of which is a Hornby LMS Black from the early eighties, which comes with the nice colour picture card in the front of th...

Re: Free Age of Steam Sound Effects
Back in the eighties, my dad came home with a 7 inch single featuring a recording of a rail tour with H2 Atlantic Beachy Head on one side, and Terriers on the Hayling island branch on the other. I used to play it while I ran my old Airfix 4F around my tiny layout. The problem was it had to be played...
