Re: Free Age of Steam Sound Effects

This could be a very interesting idea. I have only started dabbling with the ESU LokProgrammer software to create my own project by combining sounds from their free library of sounds. While my effort is nowhere near perfect, it does sound satisfactory enough for me to take my time with further devel...

It also helps if you know a good few swear words!

Re: Making a pickup wagon for a Peckett W4 ?

I haven't tried to fit sound in a Peckett, but I did fit standard decoders (TCS M1 or M4) using the 4-pin interface. In doing so, I noted that the space for a decoder is fairly big, because Hornby's own decoders are not exactly small, but also, the 4-pin interface plug and socket are quite large. If...

Re: Budget or Exquisite?

That des make sense. As you said, we tend to concentrate our focus on the locomotive, whereas the rolling stock is treated more as a block, so reduced or missing detail is not as obvious. As an example, I have been running some Bulleid coaches with Comet brass sides on Hornby or Mainline BR mark 1 u...

Re: Scenic Area vs. Programming Track

...I have a dedicated programming track permanently wired into my Hornby Elite. I have even added buffers at each end and ballasted the track... And also a Kadee height gauge. My test track is non-scenic, and 'does everything'. Continuous run with all the limiting track formations present, switchab...

Re: Scenic Area vs. Programming Track

My programming track is also scenic as I use it as a photographic stage as well. It is configured to look like it joins into the Underground tracks in a tunnel, but is, in fact, entirely separate from the main circuits. The programming track is towards the lower right in this overhead view, with tun...

Re: Creating Peeling Paintwork - By Accident

I've had a few similar happy accidents too. On one, I managed to get a peeling and crazed effect on a kit-built shark ballast plough on by simply using too much thinners on a weathering mix I was applying. I'm not sure the photos show it very well, but here goes. 20230618_123811 - x1024.jpg 20230618...

Well, what a Prima Donna! Did you ask any questions that needed a response? Or did you want a hundred "Well done" comments clogging up your topic and therefore hiding the main content?

Goodbye. :D

Re: Solder paste

I tried some 138 deg stuff yesterday on a white metal bus kit. While it worked, the joints were very brittle and I ended up resorting to 5-minute Araldite again. I will give it another go in the future, but this time was not really a success. I suspect I didn't have the iron hot enough to cope with ...

Re: Sir Dinadan puzzle

... snipped ... Once Hornby migrated tooling and production to China, with the rebuilt MN the first all newly tooled item to emerge in 2000, the very popular N15 class got an all new model release fairly soon after (2005?). This was rightly applauded at the time: it's overall dimensionally accurate...

Re: When A Business Is A Pleasure To Deal With - Railtec Transfers

This is my first post but been a long time onlooker for years. Entering retirement very soon so hopefully might have time to pass on some of the quite amateurish techniques I've developed over the years - might just be of interest to folks. I've also had first class service from Railtec - his trans...

Re: New Class 59

Thanks for the pics! That was a fast delivery from DE. Sorry to hear about the medical issue. Good to know you are back on your feet. I quite like the mix of liveries anyway.Bit more realistic in a way. In my (real life) experience with wagon operation, rakes were often mixed up around the time of ...

Re: New Class 59

A most impressive rake, and the Kadee couplings look very realistic. :) Thanks. The internal couplings are Kadee lookalikes already fitted from the factory, but with the two converted end wagons, they are genuine Kadee #17s, which seem to give just the right spacing to match the Dapol ones. As the ...
