My Peco 'O' brake with an old cattle wagon

I was just mucking about laying my spare 'O' track on a board and thought I'd take a photo. Would have been better if I'd removed the pin-vice that I'd been using when securing the track !! I made the Peco kit, but I asked my son to paint the Modelu guard. https://i.ibb.co/QdWK7Wy/IMG-5186.jpg My 'O...

Re: Maes Glas Riverside - A shunting Puzzle

All 4 stops now in place.

Point system, frog switching to sort then some scenery, or at the
very least some ballast.

Re: Maes Glas Riverside - A shunting Puzzle

Did some work outdoors. All 4 of my bufferstop kits were ready to install, even if one was still unpainted. The location has to be very tightly controlled so many checks were made and in the end I decided to use the rail beam version of the short GWR type close to my platform and the wooden beam out...

Re: cutting track.. razor saw

I usually use a slitting disc in my Dremel. You do need to check that the mandrel is true and that the disc rotates in an accurate plane. With laid track remember when you cut you can't get to 90 degrees because of the grinders body. In that case cut from the side that will allow an undercut on what...

Re: Maes Glas Riverside - A shunting Puzzle

Ahh, leopardstail, Non NEM locos will mean that you'll have to find a way to attach, often difficult and something I've mostly avoided. Getting the right height is VERY important. I have a mix of wagons with Kadees, from Wrenn, Triang, Early Hornby with wide metal couplers, but mostly kit built. Whe...

Re: Maes Glas Riverside - A shunting Puzzle

Hi aleopardstail, Kadees - They can bite the hand that buys them !! But if you get them working perfectly then they really do help running around and stock movement "Hands Free". I was amazed last weekend at Axminster how many casual followers are blown away by working a hands free shuntin...

Re: Maes Glas Riverside - A shunting Puzzle

Ahh Bufferstop, "Modern Trackwork" that doesn't really cover my copper-clad tie-bar sleeper. One thing I now note, what I haven't done is cut away the cork from under that tie-bar sleeper. As a result it's dragging over the cork so I do need a strong spring, I even wonder if my wire will b...

Re: Maes Glas Riverside - A shunting Puzzle

Well, not the best conditions for making a video.
Dull & raining and in my shed without additional lighting.
What it does show is progress, enough to have a loco running.

I desperately need some reliable dry weather, not looking a good
week for that ?

Re: Maes Glas Riverside - A shunting Puzzle

Back to this and the final cut where things MUST be spot on. I have to splice in my buffer stops. The locations are dictated by magnets. Here my test train. https://i.ibb.co/55V4bnj/IMG-5169.jpg This particular siding has to have a maximum of 4 wagons. To achieve a fail safe siding length I proof te...

Re: Maes Glas Riverside - A shunting Puzzle

Now in the process of making up some Lanarkshire Models white metal buffer stops. I can't really run the layout until these are in place. https://i.ibb.co/dbtQbYc/IMG-5165.jpg https://i.ibb.co/FbtjTf0/IMG-5164.jpg All basic track wired in and working fine, can't run though as there is no power switc...

Re: Have just joined today!

Welcome.
Your geographical spread is quite high, Kettering to Forest of Dean.
I say that as an ex resident of Northamptonshire.

I had no real problems from retirement - Always too much model making
to do. I am slowing down now I'm well past 80.

Always fancied a Raven, big freights were my interest.
Now I have 600 wagons, but run short trains on little layouts !!
