Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Hi Bigmet, Always a degree of swirl, I may be drifting back towards doing more aircraft. In the meantime I decided to start a new kit, my first 'Slaters' kit and I like what I have. I tend to think of Slaters for 'O' gauge, but they do a few '00' models. My choice was a LM to LMS 10 Ton van. I wante...

Re: RAILEX 2024

Stoke Mandeville, that brings back some memories of the modellers exhibitions
in the Hospital back in the 1990's.
Wish I lived nearer, or do I ? as I have little doubt I would be spending some
money at more than one trader !!

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

When a few people said "Railway Modelling" is dead after the closure of Hatton's. Many of us said what rubbish, emphatically so !! Well something is wrong in the world, it MUST be, as here we are with no fresh postings in this thread for nigh on a Month. This is the Workbench - the place t...

All these bad habit revelations.
Mine - Easy.

I Keep to the same password for all my Railway Stuff.
So what if someone hacks - well I could start again, or pass onto another hobby !!
No financial risks and quite honestly they are the only ones that need tight protection.

I could see a couple of 'Lots' that would once have been interesting to me.
Not now though.
I'm in the 'moving things on' mode.

Re: Handrails

Hand-rails are supported on hand-rail knobs. these fit into holes on the boiler side, or other locations. They come in different lengths if you still have on one side you could, measure but you're talking very small differences. The usual wire is stainless 0.45 mm and can be easily obtained from cer...

Re: GWR 0-4-2T's in OO

AAHHhhh, This has arrived too late.
I have a DCC fitted early Dapol & a Hornby and they work O'K ish.
Then a couple of airfix and a couple of old kit built. None are really good enough.
But I'm retired, well almost retired, just not spending.

Re: Failure and restarting

Your list of things makes great sense. I would expect you to have success this time even if it takes a lot more time. One thing I will say is do you know what period you want to aim at, and with that stock needed ? When I started it was going to be Blue diesels only - tight control on numbers needed...

Re: Anyone currently buying?

Nothing ?
No not quite nothing.
Today I ordered 5 packs of Kadee couplers mostly No.20's
All my kits had closer coupling mounts, now I'm adding to some Dapol longer buffered stock
where longer couplers are needed.
Not far under £60 to modify just 10 pieces of rollingstock !!

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Hi Peterm, It is as near to accurate as we could make. One club member was going to climb the hill behind to get an accurate background, but he's never done it. It is slightly compressed, mostly the outer siding curved away more, but we would have a lot of space with nothing much around it. The sidi...

After Chard I'm trying to make up another of my aircraft Vacuum formed kits. First Chard, https://i.ibb.co/BLfrhgK/IMG-5067.jpg Then the aircraft. With modern technology the vacuum formed kit is relegated to history. A sheet of heated styrene drawn over wooden moulds with a vacuum. Apart from carvin...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Just a little update. First I find that my Department wagon had two slits cut at the opposite end to the entrance. With it built and part painted I had to carefully cut the slits using two hacksaw blades taped together. Then lay in edging strips before giving a quick covering of grey paint. I've als...
