Re: Unequal light output problem

Hi Bufferstop, Nope - I did send a message to Express, but nothing back yet. I was hoping they'd tell me. The entire resistor is about half the length of my ex-Maplin's stock. It's a beige ceramic and the only rings I can see under my Daylight bulb, desk magnifier are the gold & 2 x brown. There...

Re: HS II - The Kadee Experiments

Well, lighting has caused some difficulties, but I hope it's almost fixed. Here we have two pictures taken with the transit packing lid on to darken enough for photography. First the goods shed with it's two pendant lights hidden from view, but making bright pools of light on the platform. At the fa...

Re: Unequal light output problem

I'll start this with a minor request to members. When you have 'problems' and try advice from NRM please post what the results were and what if anything fixed your problem. It can be a great help to others. If it's fixed and you never tell us we're left wondering ....... Anyway back to my glitch. Ex...

Re: Unequal light output problem

Oh well into the loft to find my stash of resistors ...... with the accompanying chart to see what I'm going to put in. It is exactly as Bufferstop says, the actual LEDs must be the problem. Connected up in series using the resistor that had been on the dim light and the bright one is still just as ...

Re: Suitability or not for DCC

I think you've understood that secondhand items can be, to say the least unpredictable. Ask yourself the question why are they being sold off ? Believe me we all get caught at some time, easiest is falling for a Bachmann, forgetting early ones had split chassis. That CAN cause problems although my D...

Unequal light output problem

I added a couple of 'Express' lights, nice quality brass stems. I can't recall testing them all before installation and now I have considerable differences in light output. The lower is my preferred option and a friend who has also used some thought there may be different resistors. I replaced the r...

Re: Gantsville - Building an HO Inglenook

Hi Nick,

Tree making has caught my attention !!
It's something I've chickened out of doing, but as you've alluded to
decent size trees cost a small fortune.

Progress may be slow, but you can't help
but appreciating the underlying quality.

Not only that it's not a race !!

Rolling along with a real quality look.
I ought to buy a bottle of fizz to crack when the first full circuit completed
and running.

Re: Dean Goods, next loco from Oxford Rail

I see it's just the early period GWR at present.
I'm wanting the early BR black ........not unexpected
by anyone who knows my freight focus !!

At £95 from you know who, certainly as affordable as
almost any tender locomotive.

Re: Radius 1 based layout and locomotive limitations

Hi Bufferstop, It really is something of a nightmare for the beginner, so many different methods and no real standards. My money would tend towards Hornby for the benefit of those wide couplings where fitted, as you say, they help keep stock on the track by giving enough spare lateral movement. No w...

Re: Radius 1 based layout and locomotive limitations

Hi Gerald, This is where generalizations all go wrong. The right question, it's the Tender that derails on my weathered black BR version. The locomotive has no trouble, as in fact my trouble free Bachmann GWR green version. I have looked carefully at the problem and it comes to the design where the ...

Re: Radius 1 based layout and locomotive limitations

One of the key elements to good running around 1st radius curves is very good track laying, no out of alignment track joins, flat and level base with no twist, or gradient changes. You will also be limited to slower speeds and a curve connected directly to a point can cause problems. There is little...
