Re: How Good is It

I use Selects for most of my DCC running and find it no more clunky to use than say the clubs base Gaugemaster system. The frustration is it's inability to change CV's and some locomotive and decoder combinations must have changes to get running at all !! Too many people throw the non-NMRA fact abou...

Re: Bridport & Dist MRC Summer Exhibition 28th July

Just over 2 weeks to go and I've outsorted (I think) the best set of wagons to have. https://image.ibb.co/et6b98/IMG_2739.jpg Just 164 of them - even then I'm sad I've not included the 20 coal hoppers. Here are the boxes ready to go, one has a Castle & 9 coaches, another 10 assorted coaches, but...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

During my preparations for the forthcoming Bridport exhibition I've been going through stock boxes and finding more of my 90% jobs. Those I build until something else catches my imagination, or there are 'difficulties' that I choose to leave until later to solve ! After the Pallet van I've returned ...

Re: Bridport & Dist MRC Summer Exhibition 28th July

Some good news. We have arranged for an open Top bus to provide a service between West Bay (George Hotel) Bridport Town (Bus Station) Colfox School for the Exhibition Beaminster (Square) This is FREE, but a request for donations - we expect us use about £70 worth of fuel !! IF you are interested I c...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

In my posting of 1st July I mentioned the de-railing problems I was experiencing with a few of the Dapol 16 Ton mineral wagon kits. As explained I swapped wheel-sets around to use the deeper flanged Hornby wheels. On Tuesday evening - Club Night I ran a long coal train as a final test of running qua...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Hi Lysander, As far as the quality of workmanship goes I know yours took a lot more effort. NE why not ? While I do pay lip-service to accuracy I enjoy playing trains, so many post nationalization wagons do run in LMS or GWR rakes. I could never be pedantic ....... I also think that old wagon was da...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

At long last I've decalled my Parkside Pallet Van. No real extenuating circumstances, just that halfway through painting it was put up into my loft, then into a Bachmann collectors club stock box and more or less forgotten. Even now the chassis has not been painted, but that can and will be done aft...

Re: Bridport & Dist MRC Summer Exhibition 28th July

Another week closer. Spent some of the weekend giving a few mineral wagons a weathering wash and filling some with my coal mix. Then extended running that revealed some de-railing problems which have now been sorted out. This week will be testing with extended running of all the locomotives I'm taki...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Hi Mountain, I find real coal too much of a problem to get the right sized flakes for my requirement. I do have a couple of lumps here hanging in my garage in an (Old) plastic bag ( non-biodegradable) I really don't understand people who feel that only real coal looks like coal, some things don't al...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Rather busy at the moment on 'life' !! Managed to find time this morning before it got too hot to splash another wash over 3 x 16 Ton wagons that need a coal load adding. Still not hard enough to stick in with the 50/50 mix, but just waiting, now all ready to go !! https://image.ibb.co/f1AbKy/IMG_27...

Re: Rail noise

A difficult one - A layout I used to use was on cork, but when a member with an 11 coach Virgin pendalino ? was running at a scale 80 mph + it filled the room with wheel noise. Then I lived at least 2 miles from the east coast main line and in the night what could I hear ? The wheel noise which must...

Re: Castell Mawr - A joint GWR/LMS route

Funny you should say that John, Both HS2 AND the Thomas layout are booked for the Association of Wessex MRC's exhibition at Frome in January. Why take the easy way out ? Double your trouble ! Not that bad really as I'm taking and supervising Thomas while the clubs exhibition manager will look after ...
