Re: Sentinel & DCC
Reasons why I won't buy second hand.
One thing that's almost universal is broken axle guards.
My NEW one came with one broken off, the other cracked from overly tight packing in the box.
As to the other faults ............. no comment than it shouldn't be that bad !!

Re: Shunting Layout Couplings
Without reservation I'd say Kadees. You then have a couple of problems. One is deciding if you can put up with the rather unsightly between the rails magnet, they work well with a minimum of setting up. If not then below the board magnets can be fully hidden, but believe me this set-up is a nightmar...

Re: Dapol O Gauge 'Sentinel'
I don't do 'O', but have one of these (Pristine) a sweet little runner
with it's Modelu driver. For anyone wanting to play with a small 'O'
layout it's the ideal.
That one really is a tired machine.

Kit Instructions - A laugh, particularly many locomotive kits.
I have a feeling you won't let this beat you.
Something about a raw unpainted brass kit ....... a tempting thing.

Re: New; well, first layout..
Hi Zoso, I'd agree that building is the key element, but everything I make tends to be built to last. You then reach the situation where there is no room to continue. It is also possible to run out of ideas, something I'm suffering from at the moment. Anyway - here is an example of raised tracks, pl...

Re: New; well, first layout..
I tend to keep my nose out of peoples projects, but thought I'd throw some spanners in the works. First basic observation is most modellers don't know exactly what part of this extensive hobby is going to be their favourite place. Be prepared to work small at the beginning allowing you to evaluate w...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works
O.K then scissors Mk.1 works, far from perfect, but a super learning exercise. A club colleague fancies a small layout and the prototype has a slightly curved scissors. He asked if I would join him and perhaps use this straight scissors crossing. I suggested I try making a curved one and IF it works...

Re: Hornby Peckett B2 0-6-0 Anyone got one ?
Hi Monday,
Yes, the Hornby 4 pin should be easily available. I have at least one so
fitted. It is Just possible that I have the Hornby 4 pin in 3 that I somehow
now find sitting in my shed !!

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works
Been playing around today with some Gaugemaster frog juicers on the scissors crossing. I worked out that it should be possible to work the 6 common crossings with just 4 frog juicers. You end up with a lot of wires. Somehow one frog juicer has burnt out. Why ?? I can't see anything wrong with my ins...

That's a really clean and accurate build.
Where would we be without clothes pegs and elastic bands, some of the best tools
ever invented !!

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works
Still trying different things. This time trying to re-gauge my hand built EM point. I gave up on EM because of a shortage of conversion parts for cheap locomotives that I planned on using. So after the scissors crossing build I needed to make & fit my own over centre springs, so before going bac...

Re: Dapol 14xx traction problem
Hi All, Well I felt I had to step in, in defence of the Dapol 14XX. I bought mine second-hand back in 2010, specifically for use on my Cornish, or more vaguely 'West Country' layout St Oval. Here in May 2010 it is pulling some 12 goods wagons - quite enough for applications where a 14XX may be neede...
