Re: New layout, advice
First, great that you are planning to use live-frog pointwork. That is the first step towards good running properties. Lines close to the edge - The easy way is to have a wall along sections that are posing a potential threat to flying. I mean 5 cm is damn near 2" (I think in Imperial measureme...

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
A DIY job Phred. The Grant Rail version is overall yellow - including the match truck that I removed. Now the question. Who were/are Grant Rail ? Well I didn't know and wasn't particularly bothered, however because of a professor ? youtube blogger Anna (Has a couple of university degrees) I thought ...

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
I knew it was a while since I found time to work on this micro, it's been longer than I thought. Today I've started adding some plaster over styrene fills. Just a quick splash of grey paint on the first plastered section. This is going to be a slow job, even slower adding paint, first coat to seal, ...

Re: My first baseboard experiment
Quite a long break, but nowhere near a record !! I see you mention Metcalfe. I stopped using them because everyone seems to, then recently found a free issue 3 storey house & shop combination. Made it and thoroughly enjoyed it !! So last week bought another larger kit to make up a low relief hig...

Re: Anyone currently buying?
Anyone Buying ? Mmmm I hope so as I must reduce my 'Shed'. Just realised that I have 3 x 9F's, Why ? well it sort of happens, doesn't it. I'd buy a 'Gower Princess' Ruston, but only if I see a new one at under £80. I have 2 Ruston's already, which should be enough. Then why 3 x 9F's ????? Do some Ka...

Bigmet, https://youtu.be/eQMpZKfqeXQ?si=dPsyECfomnncKYpJ Tried it under the loading gauge, no need to drop the chimney. The decoder is still giving problems as I can't change the address from default 03. Kevin at DCC Supplies had the Zimo decoder back when the loco just ceased to work. He checked it...

Re: Soldering Flux
I don't do brass kits and any white metal I've used superglue. Most soldering done using multi-core, except track on to copper-clad sleepers where I use a liquid, Carrs Red. I do have a tube of paste flux that has been used very occasionally. I certainly don't see myself as a soldering guru - A bodg...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works
Hi Bigmet, I have yet to try it under a loading gauge. It's going to be close to limits. I have to lift off one layout and place on another. Must have the right health & safety so we don't have the accident like that Phred noted alongside the wool shop !! Today has been most frustrating because ...

Re: HS II - Shunting with Kadees
Hi Phred,
I'm not on commission from Hornby, but why wouldn't anyone not want one !
I couldn't resist having two and have been drawn to another livery, who knows ?
With live switched frogs the performance is almost bewildering. Never used mine
with the pickup truck.

Re: HS II - Shunting with Kadees
What do you do when there is no building under construction ? Play with something you did before, in true 'Blue Peter' style. Well HSII is usually available after opening the lid & switching power on. I can only spend so long in an unheated shed, but from today's running. https://i.ibb.co/RgKScP...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works
what does it take to reinvigorate you ? In my case digging through stuff I've not see for years as I reorganise the shed. First there was a broken traction engine. Scrap, or save ? By drilling into the body and driving in a dressmaking pin, then drilling the front axle trunnion for the pin to seat i...

Re: Adventures In A Box Room
Something on the tracks !! As promising a beginning as one can expect. The plan ? A quarry, or scrap yard within a worked out quarry ? Note : I have a jam jar with rusting metal turnings that was once destined for a 16 tonner. Perhaps it could do with another home ? I do expect 16 tonners to dominat...

Re: How often do you have buyers' regret after buying?
Bigmet, you managed to make me laugh. It would seem we are of a certain generation. I didn't do War Gaming, but had some trenches dug into the garden rockery along a higher garden level. Old lead ? soldiers were hidden in the trenches and I would go through 500 .177 air-gun pellets banging away at t...
