Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

My guilty conscience regarding non-finishing jobs saw me get the paint out for the 16 tonner chassis. While at it this baby blue ( Mediterranean Blue) caught my eye and decided this for my little wagon !! https://i.ibb.co/cK7SMS6N/IMG-5404.jpg Still have to mount it's brake system when I work it out...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

I keep moving on to the next job without :- A) Finishing the first model; B) photographing stages of work; C) posting on here what I've been up to. Thursday evening I didn't want to watch TV so made up another Dapol 16 ton mineral. From opening the packet to having it running on track took 2 hours. ...

Re: New layout

There is Pristine, well looked after regular use, quite dirty, and then ready to be condemned. Weathering needs to be very subtle for most main line locomotives. Much of the dirt is road dirt splashed up off the rails and drawn up by wind pressure. Then there is an even more subtle dirt from falling...

Re: Want Genuine Smells for your Model Railway?

No way, my cow fields and farm yards wouldn't suit my towny nose.
Can't even get into sound too much, I have a few, but often run without
it being switched on. I don't think sound works on smaller layouts and
certainly not on shunting layouts.

Re: Me Running on the Bridport Club Test track.

Thanks for the comments guys, I dread to think of what my rolling stock cost, even from when I was buying Dapol kits at just over £4 each. I do spend an inordinate amount of time trying to harmonise couplers. a few of these had Kadees removed for this exercise, yet still kept their brakes. I never h...

Re: Me Running on the Bridport Club Test track.

This time I decided the sidings we have are too short to reverse back.
Not only that I didn't want this lot scattered over other running lines.
Being a club track there is always pressure on 'time' as others also want
to run things.

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.

Another with low power household lighting. My highland cattle ignoring the train. That white will vanish as the watered down PVA dries out. The local Laird now has his fishing pontoon. https://i.ibb.co/bR1zJnST/IMG-5389.jpg It'll either be rubbish, or look better after lake water has been added. Tha...

Re: Leopard Street, LNER 1930's

Well made Metcalfe stuff is great.
I personally enjoy making them - so well planned with super instructions.
With added lighting you do have to watch bleed through.
I still have a line of buildings in the loft that was used on one of my layouts
back in 2009.

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.

Phred, not that frightening. Makes me recall driving down narrow lanes & Green tracks in the middle of the night at anything up to 100 mph - and I'm still alive. Only one episode that can still make me break out into a cold sweat. A series of tight bends with high grassy side banks. Go into it t...

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.

Although I've been laying more greenery there is still a long way to go. In the meantime I have running sessions. This taken to show the depth and how narrow the cutting is. https://i.ibb.co/fzmcY0SH/IMG-5387.jpg How much fun & entertainment can you have from a 34" x 33" circle of trac...

Re: Ivor The Engine

aleopardstail, thanks for the comment. There will be weeks of thinking as to how the timber work will be constructed. In the meantime my modified tight turn coupling arrangement has been tested. The video explains it all until at the end I couldn't remember what was going to be closer, or more open....

Re: Ivor The Engine

I'm now racking my few remaining brain cells as to how I can make a folding, but lightweight layout board that will also offer some variation in landscape. I just hate totally flat 'On the board' layouts, even those that squeeze in some height above track datum. There needs to be space underneath fo...

Re: Caley single 123 from Rapido

For the amount of running it gets I shall stay with my Hornby version, which I thought at the time was a very nice locomotive. I even had a special 'Gala Day' on 'Two Short Planks' back in 2009. https://image.ibb.co/iDjb56/IMG_2184.jpg The sort of thing that sits well in a display cabinet !! Geoff T.

Re: Ivor The Engine

Hi Mike Parkes, Even the flange depth will have an influence when you're pushing limits. As a result in the short term - like however long it takes to get delivery, I will stop track making. https://i.ibb.co/yB5KqxvT/IMG-5380.jpg Next is to look out my ply and probably cut to 24" wide, anything...
