Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

'Swindon' is no more https://image.ibb.co/nyM4bw/IMG_2575.jpg I still have to fill in my darker grey on the two inner sections each side. Couldn't do at the same time, or I'd get fingers all over what I've already done. I added a little white to my old self mix colour and now if anything that's also...

Re: Oxford Rail three-axle Toad "Swindon"

Hi D605Eagle, I now have my Swindon & Bridport versions. Although there is noticeably more horizontal play in the centre axle boxes it's not quite enough to keep on my 1st Radius curves on St Oval. So within 5 hours of delivery I had the file and took off flanges from the central set of wheels. ...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Dave, I think Pete is right. Anyway I pick the title 'Butcher of Bridport' to go with our grisly past. Ever heard of the 'Bridport Dagger' ? Well Bridport made all the hangman's ropes used for executions by hanging, and The Bridport Dagger was their nick name given locally. I'm also not into subtle,...

Re: what size radius will fit?Track plan

I don't usually comment on planning, I see that as the responsibility of the constructor to work out what they want which is always highly individual. However I would strongly suggest you try to avoid 1st radius curves. The majority of stock will run around, although increasingly new releases need 2...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

The Butcher of Bridport strikes again !! More testing proved that there is not quite enough horizontal play in the centre axle set of the new Oxford Rail 6 wheel GWR Toad brake van to run reliably on 1st radius curves. This was not unexpected, having had experience of the Dapol 6 wheel milk tankers....

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Hi TimberSurf, Without finding a book for the full gospel, here's my take on it. Weight and braking were the two criteria. Remember that during this earlier period all-up wagon weights were about 18 to 20 tons. The 62 6 wheel brake vans were rated 24 tons so the (Small) spoked wheel loading was as h...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

Hi Jim, Actually matt black paint, thinned as I progressed. Full paint on chimney and smoke box, thinner for buffer beams and thinner again for the overall wash. Easy to do on a cheap model ....... but that £160 one ?? https://image.ibb.co/cyydib/IMG_2572.jpg Latest RTR arrived today. The colour is ...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

While still in that "Clear Up State" I've been painting a few loco crews. Monty's Model Railways white metal figures I've had sitting around for more than 4 years. While the paints were out I decided to make my rather shiny Hornby S&DJR Jinty look slightly used. Apart from noticing the...

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

After my post Christmas slump I'm starting to finish a few old outstanding jobs. One is finishing the Southern Railway 'BY' Utility van. I'd reached the stage of having to add the window bars. In a previous build I'd put in individual vertical bars from fine plasticard rod. Now Sarah mentioned a lit...
