Re: HST formations and liveries from 1991 to privatisation

I never thought it would happen, but i've just bought a couple of Lima HST power cars, which are in intercity Swallow livery. I'm trying to firstly find out if I can run these power cars with Mk3 coaches in the earlier mid 80's intercity livery which has 'iNTERCITY; in the earlier font,.... HST Pow...

Re: Manchester Railways

OO Gauge: Bachmann classes 150 and 158 have been done in a number of liveries from the north of England. Realtrack Models have produced class 144 units in liveries found in the north. Hornby have produced classes 142 (though not the best model ever made), 153, and 156 in similar liveries. Bratchell ...

Re: Overall roofs on a through station?

Huddersfield, Blackburn and Manchester Victoria had/have roofs over the platforms and tracks, though in the latter case it was extensively remodelled to make way for the M.E.N. Arena (as it was at the time).

Re: Layout Advice Please

Whatever the advice given here, please remember that this is your railway, and you have to be happy with it. We can advise, but you must make the decisions. What do you want to achieve from your layout? Are you hoping to make a nice scenic model? Or is your primary focus to run trains? Do you hope t...

Re: Hornby Mk4s: First Vs Standard

.....As my layout cannot accomodate a full train I have consigned myself to the power and dummy cars, 2 normal coaches, a buffet car and sleeper car, all Mk4's.... There are no Mk4 sleeper cars. The Hornby models of the Mk4 (TSO, RFB, FO) are reasonably accurate for the 'as-built' Mk4s, however the...

Re: Hornby Mk4s: First Vs Standard

Different coaches have different window arrangements, this applies to standard and first class coaches, and yes, the internal seating layout is different. My current understanding is that originally the outer coach designs were the same, but later refurbishments have changed that. On 'Mallard' refur...

Re: Class 122 DMU Hauling Coaches

Network Southeast used a variety of 101, 117 and 121 vehicles to keep the service going at times, including examples of 117 centre cars being sandwiched by two 121s on services out of Paddington.

Re: Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg

There's an Ibis not too far away which can sometimes be quite good value. Word of advice about Miniature Wonderland. Book ahead. Queues at the door can leave you waiting two or three hours and there's not a huge amount to do while you wait. I'd also say it gets quite busy in there, even with the res...

Re: Hst vs 225 set compatibility

The 91 is traction tyred is it not ? It should manage in theory if it's heavy enough. Try adding some weight inside before you try anything more drastic. Additional weight works to an extent, but too much works against the performance of the motor. When the traction tyres wear, the problem is magni...

Re: Hst vs 225 set compatibility

Hairyhandedfool, I tried to double motor an hst power car but couldn't seem to make it fit in the body. Could have just been that loco (or my ineptitude). Definitely worth a second look Thanks Dan Not sure about the HST, though having had two motored power cars on a Lima HST, I'd recommend finding ...

Re: Correct blue for GNER hst

If memory serves, the Lima coaches are a bit too dark and the Hornby ones a lot too light. Lima were also far more consistent with their colour. Hornby almost varied within the same batch.

Re: Hst vs 225 set compatibility

Buy a second motor and wire it in to the loco just like the first one. I did similar with a Hornby 86 and it easily hauled 8 (heavier) Lima Mk3 coaches.

You could do it with other plastics I'm sure, cut to shape, but that seemed like the simplest solution for me.

Re: Another Hairy layout

I had some spare Bachmann class 150 windows from another project. I cut one to fit and removed the moulded silver frame. I could have done it better and might try again at some point.
