Re: Gauging Issues
the tour is a paddington to stratford upon avon and return trip, one 6024 has done many times with no issues with gauging in the past, the trip had been advertised for months, then a week before the trip, the loco's are changed, I understand that different railway companies had different loading gau...

Gauging Issues
I have just found out that 6024 has been replaced by Tornado as motive power for the William Shakespeare railtour next week due to "guaging issues", it's not the first time this has happened this year, 4965 has also fallen foul of the same issues, the thing that concerns me is I am sure th...

Re: King - Inside Cylinder end covers...
the type of inside cylinder cover is the main difference between identifying the two batches of Kings, the 1927 batch (6000 - 6019) have the cigar shaped covers, the 1930 batch (6020 - 6029) had the later style of cover that goes down to the frames, I have a magazine all about 6024 that has pictures...

Re: Smokebox Question
Hi Ben If you are building your own models this might be of some help My Dad has a book (I think it's an Ian Allen book) that has technical drawings of all the GW locos, it gives all the dimentions, power specifications and lists all the loco's built, I'll nip over this week and get an ISBN number f...

Re: how common is this?
The main-line compliant steam engines have ash boxes (can't remember the techinal name), mainly to prevent or as least reduce the risk of lineside fires from hot ash and cinders, so this presumably also makes double heading with diesels safer, although top & tailed is more common as the diesel ...

Re: More new build projects.
I personally can not see the point of building another Great Bear, it was a one off, and adds nothing to the story of the development of the GW 4 cylinder locomotives, also the money being spent on these projects would probably be better spent on the locomotives that haven't been restored yet, but t...

Re: The Blue King
it's probably best not to say much in your position Ben, you don't know who's reading these posts, it's just a shame after all the hard work getting 6023 running these problems have surfaced, but like I said in my previous post, I'm sure everything will be resolved quickly, and we will all be able t...

Re: The Blue King
appologies for bumping this thread (didn't think starting another thread would go down well) just read in Heritage Railway that 6023 has been stopped with boiler problems, and the problem has caused some tension in the ranks of the workshop at Didcot, I'm not going to comment on the goings on, as I ...

I've travelled on 142's a few times and never felt safe in them, I suppose I'm used to travelling on the 165 units that are in my area,

Re: Which A4 ?
to be honest loco identity swaps have been going on for years, a good example is 5051, it left swindon with Drysllwyn Castle nameplates, but after complaints about Earl names being fitted to Dukedogs, the nameplates were swapped to castles, 5051 becoming Earl Bathurst in 1937, with the Dysllwyn Cast...

Hi Ben had a thought of a way to fix the chimney on your 28XX, Dapol make a plastic GW prairie kit, it's a similar smokebox and chimney to the 28XX so you could use the kit to carry out the repair, plus the kit isn't that expensive, so wouldn't break the bank just a thought that could help you out C...
