Re: METCALFE JUNCTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION

A couple of shots of the progress over Easter. Been painting the front boards, and is under way with a girder bridge made of cards. Inspiration came from a bridge across Brighouse Station. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/34/Brighouse_station.jpg/800px- http://www.egersund.info/...

Re: METCALFE JUNCTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Not a lot of progress lately, but after a visit to Brighton Model World a forthnight ago, modelling inspiration was back. Done a bit on walls around the station, but junior insisted on a running section combining his own oval track and dad's station section. See pics: http://www.egersund.info/kjell/...

Re: METCALFE JUNCTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Must say thanks for comment and advice. To answer a question: My pointwork is ordinary Peco settrack. Maybe I should have opted for something better (electrofrog) but as I am no electrician at all I have gone for the easy option . A few days off work, with the rain pouring down outside, has meant a ...

Re: METCALFE JUNCTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION

A few pics to show last week's progress. http://www.egersund.info/kjell/mrw-pics/1810_1.jpg View from station end, where I still need to construct a small baseboard taking the track 'round behind the backscene, where I will have a fiddle yard. http://www.egersund.info/kjell/mrw-pics/1810_3.jpg On th...

Re: METCALFE JUNCTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION

http://www.egersund.info/kjell/mrw-pics/1110_1.jpg View from corner of baseboard towards station area. Been busy the last few days constructing a parking area beside the station, as well as a road going up a hill towards an overbridge. Not yet decided if this will be the end of the visual part of t...

Re: METCALFE JUNCTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Wonder how many beginners go through the same stages when it comes to building the first layout as I have done myself. Numerous templates both on paper and on the computer. A couple of baseboards built (6x4) only to realise that your project is too large and ambitious, and probably will never get fi...

Re: METCALFE JUNCTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Been working a couple of days on an approach to the railway bridge, building it from thick card and covering it with brick paper. Quite pleased with the result, even though a few things remains to be done, like putting more weeds and vegetation in the hill below the brick wall. I will also get a bri...

Q

Question 1: http://www.egersund.info/kjell/wall.jpg Cut out thin embossed plasticard (unsure which make, maybe Slater or Wills). Start painting with a cream/bright yellow acrylic colour, with an artist brush. When it is dried I rub a darker yellow colour across the card with my thumb. Then light bro...

Re: METCALFE JUNCTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Finally some progress after months with hardly anything done. We have settled for a transportable layout that both can be run at home and be brought to exhibitions. 3 baseboards, each about 6' x 4' joins together to form a section of double track running into a small town station, with a single trac...

Thank you! The figures are in fact cheap chinese stuff, but I have repainted a few of them, creating a blonde look on some, as all had black hair initially. Oh, no, shouldn't have said that. Of course they all went to Wilson the hairdresser in 25 Mill Street... The black on the tudor house is from c...

FIRST TUDOR STYLE BUILDING ON IT'S WAY

As my town slowly develops, I think it will be a market town set somewhere in the midst of England, around 1985-90. I will try to build a variety of houses in a small hill from the station towards a market place in the upper left corner, the track going underneath the town in a tunnel. Having worked...

Just a couple of pics, testing out the hill effect after building another house from scratch today. Cut building from a stone sheet from Metcalfe's instead of printing my own computer worked stuff, and it proved to be a much simpler operation. Even though the card is without any relief at all, it lo...

TOWN IS GROWING STEADILY

Another day of scratchbuilding has uncovered the first of many houses supposed to line a hill from the station to the town centre at the back of the layout. Based loosely on a half timbered house adjacent to Jews Court in Lincoln, I haven't decided yet what kind of shop it should be, but my daughter...

A day off from work combined with dreadful weather made an ideal day for some serious modelling. After quite substantial plans for a big layout, reality has dawn, realising that I can't build a model of the entire British Railway in my living room. At least so says the fat controller (wife) After al...

MAKE OF BRICKPAPER

I make my buildings on computer, using adobe indesign software. As for the brickpaper, I have found some textures on the internet, and has manipulated them towards the colours I want. However, this isn't easy, as they tend to become too brown/orange, or too pale. I am working on textures similar to ...
