Re: Getting started

Re: UppyDownyRoundyRoundyRailway

Good old magnahesion technology! Seems a useful upgrade. Your lift out section aapears concerningly large, and heavy but without it would be quite a crawl to get to the operating well.

Good luck!

Re: Making minories in settrack?

I had heard about the "no new level crossing" policy as well. There is also the one where the curves around Avon gorge are too sharp to run nothing more than 1 train an hour. Yes the track is intact up to quays avenue, although in a poor state since the gwr centenary was the last train to...

Re: Making minories in settrack?

Definately helps having shorter coaches, I did some measuring a while back! For even shorter rtr coaches you're pretty much looking at Bachmann's Thomas range. Ancient hornby mk1 = 26cm Hornby railroad GWR collett = 24cm Bachmann mk1 suburban = 24cm Bachmann 'Ambulance' midland = 23.5 Hornby Gresley...

Re: Steel rail

A go around with a track rubber now and then and no bother. If you're putting multiple feeds in I doubt you'll get many issues otherthan higher maintenance.

People coped a long time with steel!

Re: Making minories in settrack?

That was station number 3 for Portishead and there have been rumblings and mutterings about building station number 4, as they demolished number 3 just as the place started growing, now they are all complaining about how long it takes to get into Bristol of a morning. total lack of foresight as usu...

Re: Making minories in settrack?

Yes quite long, cut down to 4 foot of platforms allows three coach trains and I can work loco release though station pilot or new engine onto the train.

Wildly unprototypical for portishead but if the line had higher traffic is a potential could have been.

Re: Making minories in settrack?

Always like Borchester (drop me a pm if you want to read the full article again!). :D Although the other option in my shortlist (I promise its the last!) is Portishead (the 1950s built station). Single line terminus with resricted space hosting a moderate commuter service and had storage roads along...

Re: Making minories in settrack?

I really like the bridge idea, that would work really well. I don't know anything of E.A. Beet outside of this picture which I nicked from an anicent locked thread on RMweb, LNWR seems most likely to me although I couldn't identify the loco, the coaches are definitely pregroupibg by some way and ther...

Re: Layout Thoughts

Seems nice although kind of boring, (not that you should fill all the space with track). I'm personally not a fan of hornby platforms as they're pretty limiting. You have enough space for a double track, if you like watching trains go around I'd include that. But if you like seeing a gentle pre 1960...

Re: Making minories in settrack?

So after a lot of measuring, head scratching and changing of minds (which I spared you guys from), I'm concluding Minories doesn't fit and I fancy a superficially similar but simpler single track three platform terminus. This plan and layout are ancient O guage but half dimensions and fiddle some le...

Re: JAMES MAY'S BIG TROUBLE IN MODEL BRITAIN 06/03/19

There is a following program at 22.00 (Timeshift) about the British love of model railways. I actually liked this more than James May's show. Nice potted history of model railways and few clever bits of photography, a bit too much talking heads though as it seems you can't tell a story without hear...

Re: Making minories in settrack?

I think I suspected as much, the box of old settrack can sit in its box a bit longer. Maybe I should use the oppotunity of getting new points to go for electrofrogs for the first time... Also; I'm planning on fitting a return loop (with a few storage sidings) to attach to it which gives a few foot o...
