Re: stay Alive query

If you don't have room for a stay-alive module get a Zimo decoder because these do have a little trick that they won't stop on dirty track, and this can make life a lot simpler. It won't drive a whole foot trying to find clean track like the Lenz stay alive, but will go a few millimetres which shou...

Re: stay Alive query

A spanner in the works. I've got a 00 Gauge 03 into which I installed a Zimo MX648, a speaker and a stay alive. Some machining (read butchering) of the chassis in the cab area was needed, but it works perfectly. I got the idea from an article in the Hornby mag by Paul Chetter, AKA pauliebanger.

Re: advice required

I'm on only my second layout and it's still more a train set than a layout. In my case I'll make the best of it because of age... don't want to die before I'm more satisfied with it. I see some really great layouts, some are modelled on a real place, others freelance. Don't get disheartened, just en...

Re: Dcc loco issues

Yes certainly agree about the decoders, control systems (I use Lenz LH & Zimo decoders exclusively) and home electronics too. We've just coughed up $540.00 for a Yamaha tuner/amp to be repaired. I looked all over the place for a replacement, but couldn't find anything that does what this one doe...

Re: Dcc loco issues

...all works wonderfully but can be a bit expensive! ... In first cost, possibly; measured over service duration it's cheaper. Haven't needed to buy a single replacement for any of the Lenz or Zimo DCC kit purchased, and I am fast approaching 20 years use. For consumer grade electronics, this is ve...

Re: Dcc loco issues

You don't even have to spend a fortune nowadays to get perfect running from a Zimo decoder (non sound) as the MX600 and MX617 can be bought for about 20 quid.

Re: Cresley 2-6-2. Help.

Unless it was described as a non runner, I'd be sending it back and getting a refund of purchase price and postage both ways. You can also approach ebay for a refund. This model you've bought will have a split chassis with nylon/plastic insulators separating the driving wheels from each other. Even ...

Something I've never heard of either. Maybe some American cousins have heard of it given the amount of them that use them compared to the UK.

Re: Well it had to happen ..........

That's tough. I like Sydney, but rents and house prices would have me heading to Brisbane. Good luck with your choices. Unfortunately, because of the influx of those bloody southerners, rent and house prices have shot up lately. As sparkhill has said, it does get a touch sticky in the summer...

Re: Have you improved a Bachmann Auto Trailer?

To use a motor decoder for lighting only, solder a 100ohm resistor across the motor outputs; orange and grey. This can be left in if you need to re address it anytime.

Re: Well it had to happen ..........

It's pretty rough when you can be turfed out with 30 days notice without a leg to stand on. It should be 3 months for people to get organised. You're right about there not being much work around Brisbane, but it also depends if like me, you're prepared to do anything as long as the money comes in. G...

Re: Sound chip in Bachmann 64xx pannier tank?

Doh, I clean forgot about the 649  I was thinking of a sugar cube speaker in the cab that could be hidden well enough by a crew.
