Re: Steam Trains to Sovereign Street on a 1914/1919 theme

Always great to see 'Rocket'. Im always fascinated that no matter how great locomotives became, there's something quite special about their early beginnings.

Re: First Layout Underway - Lower Salterns Halt

That's looking great mate, a pro already!
Weathering powders are great to use. I have a set of railroad powders here I actually bought for scifi modelling and they work a treat... looking foward to actually using them on a loco.

Re: Llwyndrissi Halt.

Haha thanks for enlightening us. It's definetely a quirky little loco. I suppose prototypically it was a small shunter somewhere?

Re: Decoders for older Hornby locos?

I have persisted with cleaning pickups and wheel faces as an assembly but to no avail. But I think you're right it may be a pickup problem. Its usually not too problematic while running but if you stop to change points or halt a train and go to restart running at least 50% of the time it needs a wi...

Re: Lemington docks.... end to end

Locomotives arriving 'fast and furious'. :D The 812 looks good It appears to be a LNER/LMS joint Docks area. (Yeah) Glencairn Thanks for the comment's Glencairn. Perhaps I can be corrected but I haven't been able to find any information on LNER and LMS lines really crossing over. Although I love yo...

Re: Lemington docks.... end to end

Still waiting on my laptop to be repaired to start creating buildings but a little update.... My Rails of Sheffield Caledonian 812 arrived. I always wanted one of these and years ago looked at building a kit but was too many parts from different suppliers to get my head around... not to mention in a...

Re: Steam Trains to Sovereign Street on a 1914/1919 theme

I always like your canal boat! I must model one at some stage.
But I will be modelling along the lines of Clarence dock, but will build a couple of large dockside cranes. The grimey look and the large industrial buildings work so well.

Re: Decoders for older Hornby locos?

Zimo decoders are as follows:- NEM652 8-pin = MX600R (MX645R for sound) Bare wires = MX600 (MX645 for sound) Next18 = MX618N18 (MX658N18 for sound) Often the older locos have a nice lot of room so you can fit a socket. I would recommend that you fit the Zimo ADAPLU PCB (has a 22-pin PluX socket tha...

Re: Steam Trains to Sovereign Street on a 1914/1919 theme

Thanks for the information Glencairn and Bigmet. I struggle to find good photographic reference of docksides in the steam era. Theres aerial shots and the occasional lineside shot, generally in black and white and not all that clear so it is hard to gauge. And most modellers, as I said, have quite c...

Re: Decoders for older Hornby locos?

Hi Sorry didn't realise you were in Aus!! Yes indeed, sending something back to the UK for an firmware upgrade would be expensive! What firmware version is your Select at? Its the first two digits that are displayed on start up. It may be worthwhile longer term in considering obtaining a new Select...

Re: Steam Trains to Sovereign Street on a 1914/1919 theme

Some fantastic shots! I like the horse and cart, even if it is too big. Sometimes playing is more about the scene than the scale. One question about clarence dock is the dockside looks quite dark and grimey, was this typical of docksides or just how you have modelled it? Most dockside layouts you se...

Re: Decoders for older Hornby locos?

Gee this is a lot of information to digest! Hahaha I can see me upgrading from the Hornby controller soon enough, all considered. I wanted to lower the sound on the P2 and realised I cant with the select. But it does allow me to get the locos running and have a play and for what I paid there is sure...

Re: Decoders for older Hornby locos?

Thankyou to all for your responses. Mike Parkes I plan to go out to the shed tonight and check the stall current. Watched a few videos on you tube so I understand the process. From there I can see who offers a suitable decoder however after your comments Bigmet the Zimo sounds promising and everyone...

Decoders for older Hornby locos?

As Im starting my venture into DCC, just with the Hornby select Im finding it quite enjoyable. Being an end to end layout Im really only running one loco at a time... two at most. I have my Hornby J15 and A4 Mallard both DCC ready to purchase 8 pin decoders for. As I order I want to purchase a few e...
