Re: N Gauge Platform figures/station signs etc
While I model in OO the principal should be similar, I use either neat PVA or UHU for figurers. I remove the base by carefully trimming with a kraft knife then depending on where the figure is to stand I either drill a fine hole in the foot and up into the leg and insert a sewing pin held with UHU o...

Re: All users Please Read ********Update 30 March
We had loads of 'Russian' attacks on my forum and the security question was changed to one that can only have one answer. It stopped them dead and so far after a month of no attacks it remains so. Once the question is breached the word is spread so its important to change it regularly. Also if attac...

Re: Fiddle yard on off power switches
Ordinary toggle switches is all you need. You won't be switching 5 amps. If the DCC Concepts power supply is putting 5 amps into the buss, why wont I be switching 5 amps? There will be a main buss for the main track and a sub buss for the fiddle yard. The sub buss will be wired in parallel with the...

Re: Connecting the thin wire on lighting
Hi The wire is usually enamel coated. To remove the enamel.... I use the tip of a very hot soldering iron coated with fresh solder. Placing the enamelled wire end into the pool of hot solder melts the coating and also tins the wire too. An alternative is to use a flame from a cigarette lighter etc t...

Re: Soldering droppers to Code 75 track
Solder dropper wires to the underside of rails between sleepers prior to track laying. Either use one centre of track hole drilled through the baseboard for both wires to pass down or drill smaller diameter holes on the outer edges of the track and pass each dropper down to below baseboard. Once bal...

Re: Peco Unifrog Points & insulated Rail Joiners
Im using Peco Code 75 OO scale Unifrog points on my DCC layout build. It's usually advised, if you use Peco electro frog points, that you do some wiring changes and use insulated rail joiners to prevent short circuits. However, I wondered if insulated rail joiners were needed at all on the Unifrog....

Re: Baseboard legs
Hi You may also like to consider using 63mm x 38mm CLS timber for the legs. CLS is normally used for stud partition framing on internal walls, but its smooth finish and slightly rounded edges make it ideal for baseboard legs. It's also considerably cheaper than 44mm x 44mm (Old 2" x 2") PS...

Re: bachmann dynamis power lead
hi, yes i looked at that but it says not suitable for the ultima which is the same as a dynamis with pro box. thanks, keep them coming. thinking of looking for a laptop charger ???? Are you 100% sure? The Ulitma is slightly different in the track power output. AFAIK the Pro box plugs directly onto ...

Re: bachmann dynamis power lead
The power supply needed is a DC 16volt at 2.3 Amp.(Page 28 of the manual referes to this). There is one currently for sale secondhand on ebay here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235392163315?hash=item36ce775df3:g:T5wAAOSwZ5xlqQA0 However, it seems you obtained the Dynamis secondhand therefore I would co...

Re: OO gauge track & expansion joints?
My upcomming layout will have a continuous run on one side of around 34', so as I experienced track buckling on my last garage layout, that was a 20' run through a tunnel, I will definitely have gaps. Further to this topic, I have been wondering about trying to modify some flexitrack so it has tape...

Re: OO gauge track & expansion joints?
UK railways can have Expansion Joints in Continuously Welded Rail (CWR) though not common but fitted specially near points. It also occasionally buckles! Older style 60 foot rails had expansion built in on every joint held together by the fishplates. In very hot mid summer its not that unusual for t...

Re: OO gauge track & expansion joints?
Not sure what you mean by "Do I take it that where an insulation gap is made, the fish plates aren't soldered to the track else this would prevent the track expanding?" You shouldn't solder rail joiners to the rails, they are a slide fit. On my layout they only align the two abutting rails...

Re: OO gauge track & expansion joints?
In OO/HO I recommend the following procedure. Let the track rest to the railway room for a little while. i.e. I leave it in the room for at least 12 to 24 hours before attempting track laying. Then I use cut up lengths of post card or business card in between each yard length of track and when possi...

Re: Anyone currently buying?
No!
I stopped spending on many larger MR items currently, all due to their silly prices!
As an OAP I only have a limited MR budget which seem to be exceeded by many items sold new.
