Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

Urgh don't I've spent the past three works trying to negotiate with the web host provider to remove as much of all that business as we can..... Me at the top here...:http://www.suarts.org/content/index.php?page=13091 Slightly worried about that top search engine result... maybe my employers haven't ...

Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

Woohoo just got my copy through. So cool, I can't believe they gave me so much space! Glad they didn't edit out my thanks to you chaps at NRM also! Follow up definitely on the cards. Just finished first week of my new job and it's exhausting so I'm not sure how much progress will be made in the comi...

Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

Quite possible... V2 driving wheel spacing looks a little wide though... I think my simplest option might be to cannibalize a tender drive unit from somewhere... I've some spare farish wheels etc that I could cobble into a rolling chassis...

Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

Away in (unexpectedly) sunny and boiling Leeds this week for a conference, and remembered how much I love the architecture in Yorkshire. At the bottom of the road from where the conference accommodation was there happened to be a lovely church, which I was gratified to find had windows distinctly si...

Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

No backdrop as it's got to be viewable from all around. I might do a series of removable screens so depending on how it's displayed there's always an option but I'm not sure... having learnt lots since beginning if I were starting again I'd plan to have a curved backdrop (to avoid the corners in the...

Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

Nice relaxing afternoon in the workshop with a little bit of progress, mainly on the station! A quick overview showing everything arranged. I've taped up two of the station arches on to the frame of the base (made today) to give an idea of what the station will look like: http://s2d2.turboimagehost....

Re: My N gauge layout

Looks cool... although the individual components seem expensive! - are they large?

I've been really pleased with the Kibri church I got - would provide some really nice window/wall pieces if you fancied kitbashing something:

Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

Alas as a dedicated creative type my use of modroc has as of yet never failed to result in the partial covering of the entire room in dust... and as the workshop is carpeted (old office building) the two don't mix that well (no pun intended). I think given the nature of the Fleischmann track system ...

Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

Hmmm.... Like the sound of the newspaper... and reading... not sure about whether to use the plaster on top... Either that or some filler.... I can see something with a bit less brittle than plaster being useful with the amount of knocks my stuff gets! Anyhow... back to locomotives... those of you w...

Re: My N gauge layout

Just discovered this layout following the trail from the main N gauge forum... fantastic! Particularly enjoy the flocking and tunnel/hill as with many other of the readers.

What are you going to use to construct the castle? And will it be ruined or upkept?

Re: Glenstowe/Port Rosea Layout in N and Nn3 Gauge

As I'm almost reaching the stage with the layout that I need to "skin" the thing - I'm wondering what material everyone recommends. I've seen both paper mache and modroc used on different layouts as the base layer before surface finishing. I've got a load of modroc at the workshop left ove...
