Re: GWR Cathedral Class - 8000 Gloucester Cathedral
Interestingly, someone has already built a 4-8-0 as a proposed Cathedral Class, Bigmet. https://share.icloud.com/photos/074jtjAjS0ArDgcu3V4xNUBBQ It has been suggested that this one might have been less prone to slipping than a powerful, larger-wheeled 4-6-0 might have been, and it would probably ha...

Re: GWR Cathedral Class - 8000 Gloucester Cathedral
Thanks for your interesting comment Mountain. The link to the build blog shows that there is indeed a Princess boiler and rear truck lurking, very heavily adapted, in there. The few illustrations of the 8000 series show the influence of the Princess Pacific design on this project, something confirme...

Re: GWR Cathedral Class - 8000 Gloucester Cathedral
There is a view that had the beast been built, it would probably have been fitted with the improved Castle front bogie because, as you have noted, the actual cause of the problem which led to the King’s bogie being rebuilt and somewhat over-engineered had later been more accurately understood. Howev...

GWR Cathedral Class - 8000 Gloucester Cathedral
I recently completed an ambitious build that had been in my 'want to do one day' list for quite a while, one of the GWR's briefly considered but never built 8000 series 'Cathedral' Class Pacifics. The original never progressed beyond preliminary sketches on the drawing board before it was abandoned....

Re: Anyone currently buying?
For the first time since I can remember I recently bought some new stock: a pair of Dapol's new Toplight coaches. Expensive, certainly, but in my view worth every penny.

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works
I think that the Matchbox 'Model of Yesteryear' traction engine is an Allchin [Northampton], Geoff. Traction engines did travel by rail although their chimneys, which were usually hinged, folded down forwards and were then secured to something like the font axle or smoke box with rope. I have repost...

Re: Anybody know what this model is based on?
Not being picky here for a minute, but you reference the NE refrigerator van - you might be talking about another vehicle altogether but do you mean the white four-wheeler? If so, it's a representation of a GWR Mica. Not wholly accurate but a useful model nevertheless and, yes, both it and the bogie...

Your Baxter is delightful. It's a shame that that Southern tank was never built, too.
