Re: are toy fairs a good place to buy trains?

To be frank, the answer is both yes and no. You can usually spot the professional [and realistic] traders from the chancers at these events. Small fairs tend to be dominated by small 'hobby' traders whose pricing structures are not always realistic and tend to trade at the lower end of the market. T...

Re: Modelmaster Jackson delays

There is a great deal about this in RMWeb. I wished I had read it before I ordered some decals. They did arrive - eventually - but I'll not order from there again.

Re: Thankfully never produced

[quote="Ken Shabby"] This very nice looking V2 appeared in the 1982 catalogue. It looks to be a much higher quality loco than the other Lima steam models, so I assume these models were actually kit bullt just to give some idea what the finished model would look like. Ken I think you are co...

Re: Thankfully never produced

Like the Adams Radial, the picture was for illustration purposes only. Had it actually been produced, it may have been better, or worse, we shall never know. It would not have been what you have seen in the catalogue though.

Re: Thankfully never produced

The Small Prairie appeared in the second edition of the Wrenn catalogue, alongside an Adams' Radial Tank. Both illustrations were taken from photographs of made-up white-metal kits available at the time but neither was put through into production.

Re: Ex-Caledonian Railway 'Taunton Brake'

For completeness, this build is now finished. The bogies have been moved about 5mm further towards each end and larger wheels have been fitted. The running quality is vastly improved now. Strong sunlight has rather bleached out the colour in the photos, they haven't been repainted! https://live.stat...

Re: Ex-Caledonian Railway 'Taunton Brake'

Thank you Geoff. It's sitting on my desk in front of me right now and annoying me. I don't think I can wait for a couple of months to rectify the running issues and I also want to re-site the bogies 5mm closer to the coach ends. I'll crack on tomorrow!

Re: Ex-Caledonian Railway 'Taunton Brake'

Not updated via the link yet but more-or-less finished bar some very small areas of touching up and the addition of an appropriate tail lamp. This was an extremely speculative build at the outset. I knew that I could not guarantee a result and expecting an uncompromised product from the mating of th...

Re: Ex-Caledonian Railway 'Taunton Brake'

Pleased that it may be of interest. Do remember however that it’s going to be one of those ‘looks fine’ in terms of accuracy from two feet rather than a fine scale model. It will be recognisable though.

Re: Ex-Caledonian Railway 'Taunton Brake'

And I your prolific wagon builds! But before this turns into a gushing bromance (!), I’m pleased to say that the three anticipated problems with this build have been managed and it is now nicely on line with the sides awaiting lettering and lining.

Ex-Caledonian Railway 'Taunton Brake'

Having completed a number of Triang Clerestory cut-and-shut conversions recently, I was keen to try something completely different. For some time, I had been wondering if anything could be done with these horrors: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50935647777_0d596685d8.jpg A couple of hours on th...
