Re: Bachmann also want to sell you a Brush 2 TOPS 30/31

Been undertaking the detailed set up of both the 20 and 30 for speed range and accelerations, and I was particularly interested to find how low I had to set CV5 and CV6 on the 30 to get it down to 70mph maximum and 35mph at mid scale. Both run extremely smoothly and quietly, all there is to hear is ...

Re: Birmingham New Street and Brettell Road in P4

Handsome model that looks very well in your on scene pictures. ...One little tip that seems really obvious but I've never seen anyone mention (perhaps its because it is obvious to everyone else?) is that I line up the coupling rod on this side with the orientation of the grub screw on the final driv...

Both now decoderised, usual transformation from good running on DC, very refined on DCC. Everything to like on both models. Both will move trainloads well beyond the number of vehicles they were usually seen with in regular service.

Re: Hornby's 2023 OO range announcements

And more good news, I have now got around to the minimal modifications required to get the A4 to go round a 36" radius curve having fitted the optional flanged Cartazzi truck wheelset in the detail pack. The mechanism construction is that little bit superior over the plastic bodied A4s, and as ...

Re: Leopard Street, LNER 1930's

thankfully this is the "forever home" as neither of us want to move, bit more work to be done. e.g. this year saw a new roof, the loft will get boarded probably next year, pure storage though as the size isn't that good. next year is doors & windows.. then a bathroom, then a.. you get...

Re: B-Set from N&C Keyser

Neat job, look very smart. I am still heavily reliant on Kirk kits of similar vintage to provide my Gresley stock, cheap and effective, far larger variation of types than offered in RTR OO, and a better bodyside profile than any of Hornby's corridor stock, with the sole exception of their full brake...

Re: Toby the tram

...The good news is that thanks to Toby's skirts you can hide many alternative mechanisms in there. You could probably rig up a Hornby tender drive unit in there for example. That's the way I would go if the original mechanism is not in production and spares are hard to find. If you have one to han...

Re: Code 75 Re Railer?

...I haven't had to make any changes to my re-railer. Put simply, it just works. It's the uncontrolled variation that's 'out there in the wild' that is the potential problem. Never yet having needed one, I have no idea how many different brands have produced such rerailing items, and they may not b...

Re: Toby the tram

Toby mechanism is a very different mechanism than the earlier Hornby 0-6-0 designs in that it has quite a few gears moving in the gear train, so had a lovely smoth running design with a flywheel if I recall correctly ... Aha, that's a cut above the norm from Hornby. Very unlike Hornby to create a s...

Re: Toby the tram

Hopefully you know that Hornby have dumped the TTTE franchise, so the listed parts will no longer be available, unless they are common to other currently manufactured Hornby product; and that you just have to know enough about Hornby's mechanisms to recognise that the part(s) you need that were also...

Re: Code 75 Re Railer?

I have a Peco re-railer from RoS and it works fine with my code 75 track. Good confirnation of what I would expect, because a rerailer should locate on the top of the rail head, and with the code 75 rail head being slightly narrower than code 100 there will be no fit problem there. (The potential p...

Re: New layout

My late father said to me years ago that the older you get, the faster the years go by. He got that one right. I have been trying to convince a friend of this, specifically in respect of retirement. When you step off the non stop rollercoaster of any significant form of gainful activity, just a few...

Re: Hornby's 2023 OO range announcements

And so it continues in the local model shop, and this time they had a Hornby metal bodied A4 in late crest available, and I took the bait. Along with a few wagons I managed to spend a tenth of my 'allocated' model railway cash, that's how slow the supply has been these last eight or so years.... No ...
