Re: DCC Theoretical Question.

I am not fussed about the DCC signal structure being ported over to wireless. Forty years of intervening development since DCC got off the ground means there's room for progress there. 'Equivalent and preferably better functionality and performance all around' is the name of the game that I will be ...

Re: DCC Theoretical Question.

Bigmet. Have you seen these? http://rctrains.co.uk/Transmitters.htm Yes thanks. That's an example of the 'dinosaur' RC control that's a backward step in the context of available model railway control systems. Why would I want a system that restricts me to just 12 locos on a handset? I have a DCC co...

Re: DCC Theoretical Question.

...But there are also other considerations that muddy the waters. Now I have a question, about the greatest 'muddying of the waters' when it comes to RC for train control. Preamble. RC discussions start with an assumption of the imperative need to prevent signal corruption/loss to free moving vehic...

Re: DC to DCC And Back To DC Again!

... However by chance I've got the opportunity of an old Lenz DCC controller. I haven't made my mind up yet but I'm thinking once I get some free modelling time to buy a cheap decoder, wire it into a spare loco and see how it performs, thinking mainly of better control at shunting speeds... Try tha...

Re: Gresley 2-6-2. Help.

... Have Bachmann released a new chassis design yet? Yes, a version with a 'current standard' mechanism but the same old body was introduced ten years ago or thereabouts. This didn't raise much of a hurrah, as the boiler shape is very obviously flawed, and a pretty crude moulding to boot; also the ...

Re: Gresley 2-6-2. Help.

If you wish to do this, there is a broad crossheaded screw under the cab, remove this and the chassis hinges out, engaged by a protruding tab at the front end. The mechanism assembly, you'll see the 'split chassis' looking down on it. Go to the underside, and undo the two screws between the coupled ...

Re: Card kits - which to choose?

Welcome and good choice, nothing to do with Brunel's various broad and vacuous blunderings in that part of the country. I know where Bude is, and how attractive having gone there a few times in the past thanks to relatives thenreasonably nearby, and also recall a long ago OO model which was very fin...

Re: New layout...OO or N gauge

How ambitious are you? That's a very small space for OO, even if a fiddle yard can be added while in operation to allow a loco and stock to go off scene and return. But what intrigues is the mention of animation. There were for example confined locations in the steam period where wagons were shunted...

Re: Are Hattons buying 'pre owned' off EBay to re sell?

...The problem with EBay is the scalpers who buy up new pre release orders then sell for an inflated price on the platform... But consider that this is only possible if there are customers willing and able to pay those inflated prices. These two go together like eggs and bacon... The economically i...

Surprised not to see some mention of Hornby's new 'generic' pre-group liveried four and six wheel coaches here, or have I missed a thread on the subject? . (Hattons competing range to appear shortly too.)

Re: Airfix class 31 - what size traction tyres fit it?

Excellent. The wheels came off a s/h purchase made about 35 years ago. I recall it as 'good as new' condition, and it was never run in my ownership on those traction tyred wheels, as they were replaced immediately with the metal wheels from the pick up bogie to make the mechanism suitable for outdoo...

Re: New starter Layout 00 Gauge

...That said, 6x4 or 8x4 plans aren't generally a good option for a layout, contrary to what Hornby would have you believe. Lots of people build this sort thing for their first layout, but very few build a second and there are good reasons why... It's a rite of passage, like your first car. Got to ...

Re: Are Hattons buying 'pre owned' off EBay to re sell?

You know what they say, "A fool and his money are easily parted" there are a lot of fools buying on eBay, or people who want something and will pay almost anything to get it, just because they can ... Of much the same opinion, that's pretty much what quite quickly wrecked Ebay from the pe...

Re: LENZ digital set 01, what's it worth

At the proposed price you'll get a buyer from someone that wants the most bombproof system imaginable to programme and run their DCC locos. Before putting it on sale you might want to ask A&H models (UK Lenz Agent) about the upgrade capability on this system, just in case a potential buyer asks....
