Re: Cottey Brook - mk3

Have you considered land-scaping the roads and fields in typical West-Country "earth and hedge-rows", as I consider this one of the defining-images of Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Just a thought Yes, my original picture I had in my head was rolling fields and hedges, but as I started put...

Re: Cottey Brook - mk3

Well, over the weekend, a lot of grass has grown on the layout! http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff286/jweighell/grass3.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff286/jweighell/grass2.jpg And an overview of the whole area... http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff286/jweighell/grass1.jpg I'm very plea...

Re: Cottey Brook - mk3

The backscene is in place and I've had a go with some modrock to build up some hills. http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff286/jweighell/hills.jpg The tunnel to the left loops around behind the backscene and comes out to the right as a double line. I'm going to build a girder road bridge across the ...

Re: Cottey Brook - mk3

Thanks for the replies! Where did you get your canopy supports from? They look ideal for my station. I did the canopy a couple years ago... They were a Ratio plastic kit - was a bit fiddly to make I seem to remember, but it worked out OK. They come in a pack of two that can either be joined length-w...

Re: Cottey Brook - mk3

Not had chance to do much work over the weekend as I've been away, but I visited a model shop earlier and bought a few things... I've not been able to decide what to do about ballasting - I'd like to do it properly in terms of looks, but I know on the previous layout it caused problems. My kids had ...

Re: Cottey Brook - mk3

Well I've been making some very slow progress, but making sure everything is well built and working well before rushing on to the next thing... I was a bit overwhelmed by how much there was to do as there was several weeks of construction before I could run any trains! Anyway, I'm starting to see so...

Re: My N Gauge Layout - Halecross Park

I would steer clear of gradients if I were you... I got carried away adding them to my first layout attempt and they were nothing but trouble! Some engines struggled to get up them, and they caused problems with de-railments etc...

Keep it simple and get it working well!

Re: My N Gauge Layout - Halecross Park

Only thing I would say is that you'll have lost a lot of space on your baseboard for scenery... Looks like almost the entire board will be filled by track!

But other than that fine :)

Re: Chadwood - Modern 00 loft layout

I think SL-91 are Streamline small points? Anyway, these are a completely different thing to set-track points and are designed to give a more realistic gentle curves and won't work with normal set-track curves. Peco also do set-track points which would be interchangeable with the Hornby points. To g...

Re: New steam layout attempt No.2

That's a great little layout! Can I ask what you used for your longer grass on the embankments? And how you did it?

The grass on the left hand side - it looks very good!

Thanks!

I like that effect a lot! Can I ask which brand of hanging basket liner you used? I've been thinking about trying this myself....

Re: My N Gauge Layout - Halecross Park

Had to laugh at the trail of bent pins around your layout - exactly what mine is like at the moment!

Looking good by the way - makes me wish I'd gone for N gauge by how much track you can fit in a small area...

Cottey Brook - mk3

Didn't realise how long ago it was, but I started layout mk2 almost 2 years ago - http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=9933 . The layout was an improvement on mk1, but one of my bad traits is I tend to rush things, and am now suffered the consequences! The baseboard was...

Re: Sunshine in the Lakes (By Lee - N gauge )

Looking great!

Are you going to use a back-scene, or paint the wall a sky colour? I think that would finish it off a treat :)
