Re: 009 Couplings
I've operated several 009 and H0e layouts that shunt! TBH though the "standard" Bemo style coupling is not ideal for that purpose though it can be modified. You're better off with a Greenwich coupling which is designed to work as a magnetic coupling, though does still couple to the Bemo/Pe...

Re: Simon Kohler to leave Hornby. Again!
It's really weird you say I 'knock it' when all I did was make a comment. What I said was that your original comments were inaccurate, which they were, and so knocking the company for something they hadn't done (i.e "lost something like £7m on the TT:120 fiasco" which is totally untrue, f...

Re: Simon Kohler to leave Hornby. Again!
My word, getting a bit uptight, arent we? If you think TT is going to be great, knock yourself out. It's ok if you think the sun shines out of Hornby's or any other manufacturer's bum. I dont really care if Hornby have lost £7m or not on TT. Im not interested in it and Im not buying it. If you are,...

Re: Simon Kohler to leave Hornby. Again!
I question the success of Hornby's TT premise based on that because I dont think there are sufficient 'new entrants' to model railways who will go for space saving or maximising, smaller models. Nor do I think a sizable minority of OO scalers will buy TT beyond a starter set if at all. Are European...

Re: Simon Kohler to leave Hornby. Again!
And now (well about a fortnight ago, actually!) Montana Hoeren has announced she is leaving Hornby in August to pursue new career avenues. Sounds like Hornby have lost something like £7m on the TT:120 fiasco . Last I heard, Hornby were scrambling around the model shops almost begging them to come o...

Re: Is this site in decline?
I don't buy the 'OO SG saturated' proposition as this is just one brand among many, and 'the others' are showing no signs of retreat from the fray. I was saying that the "large sales" locos are now done, hence the "saturation" comment, there are lots of SG locos that could be mo...

Re: Is this site in decline?
There has to be enough sales for them to justify the work involved in manufacturing a loco, perhaps 00 is reaching the saturation point where there are plenty of locos that could be modelled but the sales risks wouldn't justify the expense... hence they are currently branching out into 009 which as ...

It isn't politics or religion so isn't banned or likely to cause argument or offence. A discussion on the war on Ukraine is guaranteed to end up political.End2end wrote:The same could be said of the blocking of the Suez a while back.
That seemed to get it's airing on the forum.

Re: Is this site in decline?
Having been away for over a year when I came back the first thing I noticed was that it was the same "faces", with very few newbies. I feel it's become something of a club where you meet the same people every day... Whether that means it's in decline is another matter, as long as those peo...

Re: What the heck is going on.
Go and look at the toy trainsets, most of which are also made in China and have to pass far stricter rules than model railways do to get a balanced idea to how much model railways have gone up in comparisson. Would you mind explaining that, Mountain, especially the "far stricter rules" bit...

Re: What the heck is going on.
even in the trade (those effectively 'banned' by Hornby). I wonder if you are referring to TT:120 with that statement? If so it's been discussed in many places and general consensus is that Hornby are actually doing the retailers a favour by shouldering all the risk for a new scale launch. Of cours...

Re: What the heck is going on.
I don't understand the price rise moaning, everything has gone up, not just model railways, as production costs in China have gone up! Ship all our manufacturing to another country then watch as prices rise and rise. It's almost like it was .... planned Not planned at all, just how the wold works a...
