Re: The Great Model Railway Challenge

Warley. The whole competition has already taken place, filmed earlier in the year. The competitors and any audience are sworn to secrecy until the competition has been aired on TV. It takes an awful lot of time and effort to take part, I looked into it before deciding I hadn't got the time. Apart fr...

Re: The Great Model Railway Challenge

Please remember this isn't aimed at us, it's for the non railway modellers that like this sort of programme, the subject, for once, is one we do. So those two "lame ducks" as you call them are an essential part of the set-up, without them it would be a serious programme with no appeal for ...

Re: The Kingdom of Ostrovia

Fiddle yards now complete and full testing started. Fiddle yards run ok but section 3 (the goods loop) doesn't! Also got a small dead section on the entrance to the loco shed roads but that's my fault, I can see the hole for the wire... But there's no wire! Doh! https://i.imgur.com/jFVvP3f.jpg https...

Re: Fast clock for running to a timetable

I suppose it would just feel better to run it against a real clock rather than doing it that way. I think the Rev Peter Denny of Buckingham Great Central fame used a conventional clock where he speeded up the mechanism. There was something in one of the Railway Modellers of the 70s about it.

Re: UK or Bust 2020

That was my whole point. You expressed your opinion but presented it as fact which it wasn't.
Glad we've sorted that.

You are quite right Firefly there is so much to see and he has so little time!

Re: UK or Bust 2020

Sorry if my idears on this country are not quite the same as yours. It wasn't that. You made some sweeping generalisations based on your own views which were factually incorrect. Nor did I ask where you have lived. You were obviously well travelled like me. Also going on holiday somewhere for a few...

Re: UK or Bust 2020

Some very sweeping generalisations, there, Footplate, and I'll take issue with you on many of the comments. Remember he's only coming on holiday, not to live, So can pick and choose where he visits and see the best that each area has to offer. 1. He's very unlikely to see any crime in the NE unless ...

Re: UK or Bust 2020

First thing I'd say is it depends on what time your flights are, when I go on my annual rail trip in Europe I try to arrange it so the flight arrives where I am going as early as possible and my flight back goes as late as possible, that way you can make some use of the first and last days. Otherwis...

Re: The Great Model Railway Challenge

Mainly because it caused the train to derail at the wrong time and wasn't used as a proper catch point is, it was a good idea but because of poor preparation went badly wrong. If The Train Set had done their tracklaying and testing properly at the beginning and so started from a sound base they'd ha...

Re: model railway shops

From your oroginal post I'm not sure exactly where you are, you mention Lincoln but would seem as though you are in Coventry. If it's the latter (Coventry) then there's one in Leamington Spa (a ten minute train ride from Coventry) and several dotted around the outskirts of Birmingham. One suggestion...
