Re: East Cheltwell
Have you given any thought as to what, if anything, you might put in the gap so that it appears to be there for a reason? Unfortunately, the two boards join here so options are limited - I did consider a small brook; but that won't be very feasible as is- I have been looking at older railway pictur...

Re: East Cheltwell
Work stopped as I had to order some code 75 fishplates, but demolition continued! Thanks Bufferstop for the idea of a template - I sort of used that idea and also realized that without lifting a lot more track and points, the outer curve had to go wider. The curves are much smoother and I also have ...

Re: East Cheltwell
Hello Bufferstop - yes absolutely misaligned - it wasn't really noticeable until more recently when there stated to be more derailments with the front bogie of larger locomotives causing more annoyance as well as some lifting of the track - Thanks for the advice on re-laying the track and making a t...

Re: East Cheltwell
Everything went back together and I ran some trains - I did notice though that on some part of the layout the track was lifting; perhaps the age, dryness/damp or changes in temperature. This was remedied by fastening the track temporarily and then re-ballasting with liquid pvc. Another part of the l...

Re: East Cheltwell
Thanks Mountain and Journeyman - At some point I had the idea of perhaps exhibiting on the local layout circuit - it would a novelty to have a British 00 gauge layout shown! Not sure if the pictures are still visible (Photobucket  ) on page 1-2 but each module has two guiding dowels with two b...

Re: East Cheltwell
Unfortunately, over the past couple of months, I had to take more of the layout apart for the builders to come in and have a good look at the joists, water supply/waste pipes and and electricity for quotes to have a new bathroom upstairs built. So after a couple of months and today’s and tomorrows w...

Re: Birmingham New Street and Brettell Road in P4
Again, superlatives don’t seem to be enough on the quality of your work Jim - I really like how the eye is drawn into those little details such as the rodding on the ground signals. It was interesting to see the gravel and sand fixer - having not seen this before, I had a look in the internet and se...

Looks like work is progressing well - think the wait to see the final build will be well worth it!

Re: PeterH's Great Central themed layout.
I do like the tunnel and backdrop scenery and how the eye is drawn in - lots of photo opportunities there especially the one with the Deltic! I also like the distant signal - would that be a Ratio one?

Re: East Cheltwell
I started work on replacing some of the galvanized piping in the basement room where the layout is, and then discovered more leaks. Here is a section of the old pipe with a before and after - there seemed to be a lot of plumbing bodging by the previous home owner with a lot of putty around joints; u...

Re: East Cheltwell
Thanks for the kind words - I have a tendency to 90% complete kits and then not finish with the final details and start to run them around the layout - here they are on a mixed goods - apologies about the picture quality https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50967596153_afb3c937c0_c.jpg Still having f...

Re: East Cheltwell
The weather has been cold and icy so with a day off , it seemed like a good time to dig out some old Ratio Model kits I got of Ebay a few years back. These kits appeared to be quite old, but all the bits and instructions were there. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50951655401_8a3b6700d2_c.jpg Th...
