Re: New Model Shop in Peterborough
I don't find city centre shopping easy either Mick, but with Queensgate being a mere stones throw away from Peterborough (North) Railway station it's not hard to reach the shop at all. Plus you have the Queensgate mulit-storey car park as well which providing you get there fairly early you can get a...

Re: New Model Shop in Peterborough
Hi Richard, your statement may not be quite correct if it was before xmas? Peterborough is one of the chains shops that doesn't stock a lot of Peco due to space constraints but most staff will have heard of it and will be able to obtain it from other stores in the chain and their famous model railwa...

Re: New Model Shop in Peterborough
Parking was simple Queensgate was easy to park in and I did a load of other shopping as well. The train station is but a stones throw away much easier than going down Fengate.

Re: New Model Shop in Peterborough
Richard seems to have forgotten Modelzones 15% off Hornby offer it was running during the first two weeks, the current 10% vouchers in the local P'boro press, prices below list, their price match service, exclusives, the fact they have a model railway expert in house, and not to mention in the new y...

Re: rusting hulks around the country-any future for them?
Loads of clunkers at the Nene valley as well they have a mini Barry Scrap Yard on a siding, it's one of the first sights you see when parking there. One of their pioneer opening train locos Derek Crouch sits on the siding there and it looks like all that's holding it together now is the rust worm li...

Re: New Model Shop in Peterborough
I think you will be suprised Mick. They now do a lot more exclusive limited edtiions as well as the normal ranges from the likes of Bachmann and Hornby, always worth a look. Keep your eyes open and let us know when it's open.

Re: Hornby J83
The early Hornby J83's were bomb proof they have the old X.03 motor in them and they jsut run and run, alas going over to a cheaper motor and thinner plastics hasn't helped their longevity. If you must have a Hornby J83 go for the 1976-1980's examples with the X.03, 30 years on they will still be ru...

Re: What should Hornby make next?
New signals would be good that's for sure.
The current semaphores in the Hornby range are Hornby horrors dating from 1978, they replaced the much finer and closer to scale Tri-ang plastic signals alas. The colour light signal is another 1970's Hornby horror long long overdue to replacement.

They did the LMS brake van in the same format with working Bulb. R107 was the first cat number. The vans had Silver Seal wheelsets and were nice runners.

The Tri-ang-Hornby R.028 shunters truck would be nice.

Well some new 060's would be handy, but would Terriers appeal to those outside the southern region? No offence Terrier.

Re: What should Hornby make next?
Haven't been any inaccurate Tri-ang 0-6-0's or 4-4-0's in the main range for many a year Rocketman. All have been Hornby items, the schools, D49, compound, J83 and 1978 onwards jinty are all Hornby models. The only Tri-ang 0-6-0's in the range are Duck, a much modified ex-midland 3F as James and Dev...

Re: New Model Shop in Peterborough
I can see where you are coming from T4U, but I really do think you should reconsider, it's a very big gap in your knowledge that you need to fill good sir, there is still quite a market for Tri-ang out there and a lot of collectors of it, a lot of people still run it too. Some of the current Hornby ...

Re: Hobbycraft Stock Model Railways
They do indeed stock model railways and have a decent selection as a rule.
I'm waiting for T J Hughes to have some more bargains, they had a big stock of bargain Hornby a few years back.
