Re: Hornby Class 56 - R2645X Droning when running

Just to add, I changed the decoder in it from the "Hornby stock" to a "lok-Pilot V4" and wow, what a difference in running.... Hopefully, it is now a happy little loco for a long time.

Thanks...

Hornby Series 56 DCC Fitted Decoder

Hi All, This might be a silly question (or two). I have a Hornby R2645X DCC Decoder fitted Loco. Is the Decoder it comes with Hornby's own decoder (I presume it would be) and if it is, how to find out which Hornby Decoder it is to actually see the functionality of the decoder (it is 8 pin). I am hav...

Re: Hornby Class 56 - R2645X Droning when running

Ok, I think I have nearly fixed it. I found some info on RMWEB forums regarding the Class 60. It uses the same drive (apparently) and they fixed the problem by finding the bearings on the worm gear a little tight (The bearings look like 2 nuts without threads that the worm gear ends sit in). Now, th...

Re: Hornby Class 56 - R2645X Droning when running

Ok, no replies for a few days, so I bit the bullet and totally pulled the boogie apart. Cleaned everything (cogs, etc), applied some grease (teflon stuff mentioned on the forum, cant remember the name) and it seemed fine for 5 minutes. Now, it is back to droning... I don't want to run it for an hour...

Re: Hornby Class 56 - R2645X Droning when running

The grease may have separated out somewhat, leaving dried residue on the gears, and a puddle of the oil component at the bottom of the bogie. Clean up, and apply a little oil from the top, to the bearings and gear train. Then run it for an hour or three and see if it quietens. Generally this works ...

Hornby Class 56 - R2645X Droning when running

Hi All, This is about 4 year old. The person I brought it from states it has been in a cabinet for most of it's life and I tend to agree (no wear marks on the wheels, etc) BUT, there are some things that look like it has been opened before. When running, it starts to make a droning sound from the ba...

Re: Hornby Buffer Stops - are they to scale?

It could be, but I suspect that your rails might not have been pressed fully home in the buffer stop. Just a thought. :D Ok.. I will look at that too.. I didn't want to press too hard. Hopefully, in the next week I would have done some ballasting and then I will look at fitting the Buffer in place....

Re: Hornby Buffer Stops - are they to scale?

Thanks for sharing the picture. It does look fine in your scene.

Maybe because I don't have any scenery around mine yet that it looks wrong.

Re: Hornby Buffer Stops - are they to scale?

Thanks for the replies. Very interesting information. I did just measure it, and it is 15.5 mm to the centre of the buffer, from the top of the rail. The buffers on the carriages don't touch in the right spot, they touch slightly below where they should, but that wont be a problem for me. Maybe it i...

Hornby Buffer Stops - are they to scale?

Hi All, I just bought some Hornby Buffer Stops R083 and when placed on the track, they look HUGE, even when a vehicle or scale figure is placed next to them. So, are they scaled right (They should be OO, but with an OO figure next to them, it seems the buffer area where the train buffers would touch...

Re: Weathering Plastic Brick textured walls

Thanks for your replies. It certainly has given me some way forward, although I don't think I am that patient enough to follow the Humbrol video.. Plus, in Australia, it is very hard to find all Humbrol products. But, it gives me the ideas to try and I can probably create "washes" with the...

Weathering Plastic Brick textured walls

Hi All, Hope this is the right section. I purchased a Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale Three Stall Roundhouse WAL9333041 kit ( http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-3041 ). The walls are brick textured, but the plastic is a light tan colour. I would like the wall colour to similar to a faded red...
