Re: Hello From London
that is very true in one sense. bearing in mind i dont know much about these things, I did do quite a lot of investigating and thinking about what can go in the space. Having set up the oval and siding and a few more bits and bobs- so the oval is bigger and the siding too, I can guess that the 15 de...

Re: TT scotsman has arrived
I'm not saying anythings wrong with it, just reporting back that to my unaccustomed eyes it doesnt seem very rapid, but testing suggests a scale speed of 120-125 mph and probably a little more.

Re: TT scotsman has arrived
well as I wrote, even if it doesnt look that quick, the scale speed - and i've tested a good few times now- is 120-125 mph
makes almost no odds if the loco is hauling the three coaches or not.
I expect that is the max speed of the loco- it will be intersting if Mallard cant get to 126 wont it haha

Re: Hello From London
I'm assuming they are modified tillig mediums - which are 631mm I'm assuming that because hornby has lifted the length of the straight sections and the curve radii. I watched a Hornby thingy where they said they changed the point slightly so that the return curve lines up with the straight on the ot...

Re: TT scotsman has arrived
Scale speed is not easy to judge. Regular express speed - and 90mph was the usual maximum speed the track was rated for in the steam period - is a metre every 3 seconds at 1:120. well i timed it how many loops it could do in 2 mins 18.5 the loop is 12 sections or r3 curves and 8 straight sections. ...

Re: Hello From London
...The niggle in the back of my mind is that if there are issues, well, there wont be a hundred and one people who have found two hundred and two ways to overcome them. I mean in terms of locos and rolling stock. I'm sure the rest of it is fairly universal. Universal truth no 1. Give it a couple of...

Re: Hello From London
thanks for all your kind words. In addition to the reasons I gave, I think being in at the start of something is a psychological allure- I must be a marketers dream. Also if not well priced, the things hornby announced don't seem any more silly priced than anything else. At least not on the face of ...

Re: Hello From London
well there is potentially another, a dear friend of mine and I have been discussing model trains for some years. It seems the wrong way round but the consensus seems to be "wait till my boys have flown the nest". I always thought it would be "pretend its for the kids while they're sti...

Hello From London
Hello to you all, I have had a snoop around here for awhile trying to decide to buy a trainset because I've secretly always wanted one since I went to university and left the old one in my parents shed, sadly it is long gone. Anyways, I probably sound like a hornby plant or something, but after agon...
