Re: Tender drives. . I never ever thought

You may already know this, but with Hornby ringfield tender drives you need to check with a test meter to check there is no direct means of current from the wheels to the motor as on some of them (Not all) they have current feeding through one of the screws. (Trying to remember where) which needs a...

Re: Tender drives. . I never ever thought

On the subject of tender drives, these loco's have been sat in a box since 2004. Last week I thought I would take the plunge and rather than have them sat on isolated track in a shed, I converted them all to DCC. They all run really well, so if I want a rest from all of my sound fitted steamers, I ...

Re: OO gauge track & expansion joints?

Thanks Flashbang.

That's exactly what was in my mind, they would be a perfect solution. I might just have a go at recreating one.

Re: OO gauge track & expansion joints?

My upcomming layout will have a continuous run on one side of around 34', so as I experienced track buckling on my last garage layout, that was a 20' run through a tunnel, I will definitely have gaps. Further to this topic, I have been wondering about trying to modify some flexitrack so it has taper...

Regarding the coaling plant, here's one of mine from a layout that I had in the early 90's.

Re: Anyone currently buying?

That maybe a job for the kids when I eventually pop off. Actually, it's one of the reasons I catalogue all of my stuff and I will make the next layout in sections so it's easier for them to dismantle. Forward planning and all that! Not for a good few years though I hope.

Re: Anyone currently buying?

I did buy a few Metcalfe kits whilst we were over in the UK a couple of weeks ago, but also got lucky when someone over here was selling a job lot.
I reckon this lot will fill a few sidings. I have now amassed 110 coaches and 262 wagons.

Re: Anyone currently buying?

I thought I had better wind down my buying but a mate had a load of surplus coaches, wagons, points, vehicles, people and goodness knows what else, so, I paid 3k for the lot and it is a lot. There's even a sound fitted Heljan Beyer Garratt amongst it all. Happy days, unless my wife finds out!

Re: Anyone currently buying?

In my case, yes, as I'll be building my next layout as DCC I've been buying lots of new things lately including 17 DCC steam loco's which are now Zimo & sound fitted, I've also converted a couple of my old loco's to DCC sound. Then there's the Digitrax setup, track, around 600 feet of code 100 a...

Re: Black 5 - Hornby

It is the newly tooled Black 5 and it will be DCC fitted with sound, as well as the steam ... Oh dear, Hornby lagging well behind the science. 'Steam' is a colourless gas you see, or rather, 'you don't see'! The 'billowing' stuff coming out of the chimney is water vapour... I'll be happy as long as...

Re: Black 5 - Hornby

It is the newly tooled Black 5 and it will be DCC fitted with sound, as well as the steam, lights and firebox flicker. I ordered one when they were first announced but am now a bit pee'd off that they are scheduled for release at Xmas 2024, a bit of a joke as I ordered mine in January of last year. ...

Re: I've come to the realization that I wasted my free time regarding model trains.

Well, you know what they say, get them young. My girl got into Thomas the tank engine programs on the TV and went from there. I built her a small Thomas layout for a Xmas present. She's even had a cab ride in a train I was driving. On that trip though, her main observation was Rabbits along the line...

Re: I've come to the realization that I wasted my free time regarding model trains.

I've just been looking at my stuff, it's taking up 2 bedrooms with boxes, etc. Most of my models have been in boxes since we moved to France over 16 years ago. I have also been busy amassing lots of new DCC loco's as well as rolling stock and track. Fortunately, we downsized last year and I now have...
