Building A Feldbahn

I'd love to know what this is all about, a bunch of mates all living in the same block or something with the same hobby? Whatever, I've put this in Real World Railways because it is. Sort of. Well, it's one hell of a train set if it doesn't count as real. But then, what is reality? Ahem... Start at ...

Westdale BG (NCV)

Well, that wagon involving bricks... it sort of transmuted into a BR BG. Technically not a passenger coach, so it counts as a wagon in my universe, I'm looking currently at doing an Newspapers all blue version. Soddingham has a short parcels platform, for which a Parkside fish van in Express Parcels...

Re: Can Marklin HO trains run on Lionel 3-rail HO track?

I just had a poke round on Lionel's US web site - as far as I can tell (it's the worst web site ever) they don't do 3-rail HO (currently?) so the point may be moot. Conversion of Marklin engines from 3 to 2-rail is non-trivial (unless there's a Trix version to pinch chassis from).

(Mis)Using A Dapol Impirium Decoder

Is there anything preventing using an Impirium decoder for coach lighting (7mm) - I've a project in mind and have one knocking about. Or does anyone make decoders specifically for coach lighting as Plan B? This is for O gauge, so 00/N lighting kits are N/A, and a capacitor stay-alive is essential (n...

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.

I can't help but think the bricks might be a bit problematic running wise.

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.

Will you be keeping the scenery in the spirit of the thing, trees made from lolly sticks and ripped up sponges, a dubious tunnel etc? That would be rather fun I think. A speaker playing the Hovis music on loop? ;-)

Re: Wykeham - Somewhere in the South.

... they should blend in nicely... So well that it's a good job you have the signal post nearby to remind you where it is when it comes to positioning the couplers that you wish to part. Still mulling over the matter of indicating an uncoupler location when trains occupying adjacent tracks block th...

Re: Soddingham-under-Piddle

DSC02082.resized.JPG This is why I built a layout - I just love lit models. Some light bleed issues with the signal box. How did I miss Spanner Nutt's cosy fire in his little hut. Driver Glasses McGee is doing a chip shop run (happily along side the track just inside the starter at the other end of...

Re: Soddingham-under-Piddle

Back to the trains ;-) I'm easily distracted... DSC02070.resized.JPG DSC02072.resized.JPG The rest of this end's lights are now done - the signals are all lit, but obviously pointing the other way. I don't think I'm going to make them operational - they are all set up with operating wires to move th...

Re: Soddingham-under-Piddle

Very nice. I have noticed that the majority of landys for sale have done 250k and still command high prices. I don't know how long the engines usually last. Do they have sleeves? 200Tdi's go on forever, they get faster as they age which is counter intuitive - mine (in this vehicle, I had a bit of a...

Re: Soddingham-under-Piddle

So today was a Lets Make Things Impossible For Myself day. Having got the signal box gaily lit, a further expedition was made under the base boards today to do the rest at that end. It didn't go well, but there were survivors. Step 1 in Making It Difficult (MID) was that I'd not added tails to the L...

That's what it is! It was a cock-up in the green chalk that was supposed to be moss but sort of looked right so left it.

Re: Soddingham-under-Piddle

Let there be light! [cautiously looks round to see if any universes have unexpectedly appeared] This makes me insanely happy. Shame about the levers not being quite in line - hey ho. The light level seems about right think. Now to wire the other 3 million LEDS... Also shiny new sign, not quite what ...

Re: Soddingham-under-Piddle

Gutters - at the start of things in the dark days of lock down (cheerful soul aren't I) I bought some 3d printed ones - not a great experience. So now I make them, it's really simple. A strip of plasticard forms the barge board the gutter will attach to, and also the way to attach it to the building...
