Re: Dingleberry - Small N gauge 1980's

Looking good :D That was one of my problems starting in a new gauge with no stock, how big is it ?? BTW I had an awful lot of trouble with sunlight when using optical systems it's amazing how damm strong and wide spectra the stuff is and it gets everywhere, even down little shading tubes so if you ...

Re: Dingleberry - Small N gauge 1980's

New arrivals! IMG_2285.JPG in need of paint, and missing one coupling at one end, eaten by the carpet monsters then trodden on fuel tanker rake for the depot (x3) and used oil/sludge recovery wagon (x1). I wanted them for sizing out road lengths, specially the depot fuel point road they will have to...

Electrikery! IMG_2279.JPG first prototype sensor head, 0805 infrared LED & phototransistor attached, with four connecting wires IMG_2282.JPG then painted black except for the tops of the LED and phototransistor - this stops the sensor side picking up the adjacent emitter, black acrylic blocking ...

Re: Dingleberry - Small N gauge 1980's

Parts for the sensors ordered today, 0805 surface mount phototransistors and LEDs to match, ickle cute things that they are, should be here tomorrow - I can test with an Arduino and a couple of resistors pretty soon after that just to see what happens. also have some voltage comparators and associat...

Re: Dingleberry - Small N gauge 1980's

All those electronics !! I struggle with anything more complicated than a Peco point motor !! Geoff T You do point motors? You are ahead of me! This post is a revelation, but we need to come out of the Dark Ages. no real modern technology here, well not yet, this is due to the cheap little infrared...

Re: Dingleberry - Small N gauge 1980's

Progress! due to the weather not being entirely terrible I managed to get the test board etched IMG_2274.JPG here it is, post clean up with one of the sensor heads detached. Learning point - they can be a lot closer together next time, pain to cut with the dremel as well so will be a hacksaw job in ...

Re: Michaela's Layout

That's some building, but won't it get lonely, you might have to build a few more of similar size to provide a city block to keep it company! oh definitely I have a few ideas planned based on actual buildings in my local city, plus a few generic tall mills to fill up the background battle or Stalin...

Re: Dingleberry - Small N gauge 1980's

Just a bit of trundling around today, I had hoped to get the sensor boards at least etched, but then rains came a tumbling down, so I didn't. have ordered four 15' tank wagon PECO kits, TMD will have a fuel point and fuel unloading spur, four tankers is complete over kill but without a fiddle yard t...

Re: Michaela's Layout

Last time I saw a building like that it was battle or Stalingrad refight, its incredible and very nice to see a building that doesn't look amazingly under scale.

love the interior too, thats the sort of thing that brings a layout to life

Re: Test Track started.

...Any feedback and advice will be much appreciated... Good start. For the future, my suggestion would be to plan a dedicated non-scenic continuous run test circuit in conjunction with the layout that you are building if at all possible. (Six inches below the front edge of the scenic layout is good...

Re: Flexibility in a 6x4 plans - Help!!!

Interesting concept for the drop-in yard module, but as there's not going to be storage for something of that size I'll stick to the fixed track plan and alter the buildings / backscene to suit. On the subject of which, the platforms (if permanently stuck down) would have to be fitted with a remova...

...possible alternative for the middle bit,... you could make that modular, Hello aleopardstail. Please and Thank You: Have I understood your comment?51190128144_851126e6a1_c.jpgAre you suggesting that the piece outlined in yellow could be a removable module, that one could have several clones of t...

remaining wall bits assembled, have been having a think on how to do the end bit, may as well do something while waiting to be able to stick more track down.
