possibly stolen 8 rare Roundhouse HO American coaches

A package with two boxsets of 4 coaches each was likely stolen. Roundhouse HO American coaches. These are extremely rare in the UK, especially boxed and new. So, if they would pop up for sale, it is likely that they are the same. Missing from South Wales around 10 December. https://ibb.co/rmLykNY ht...

Re: del prado dummy surprisingly good!

You can pick these things up quite cheaply. The main issue is to try to make them useable on a layout as they are generally designed for their looks rather then with conversion in mind. Having said this, it is an interesting challenge, as long as one does not end up paying more out then a conventio...

del prado dummy surprisingly good!

I initially disregarded del prado locomotives as dummies because the steam ones have funny looking wheels. I assumed that all of them will be a side track decoration only. I was wrong. Today, loaded F45 Sante Fe on track. The loco has metal, spinning wheels on swivelling bogies! (the bearings are po...

Re: Ikea tables for a baseboard

i am sitting at an ikea £17 desk right now. no wobble at all.
also considering them as a base for my layout.
modular, vertically stored layout with legs removed.
the height seems perfect as i am not planning to stand while admiring the trains :-)

ikea desk as a base for modular N gauge layout?

Planning to build a modular N gauge layout. No space at all for permanent layout. Will have to be hung on walls when not in use. Ikea desks appear to be suitable. They are 60x120cm (23x46 inches) or 60x100. Legs are detachable on just 3 screws each. Would be easy to assemble / disassemble. Boards ar...

What is the RPM range of OO/HO wheels?

What is the RPM range of OO/HO wheels?
I could probably calculate it somehow!
Hopefully someone knows outright.
Model trains simulate speeds 0-100mph and at HO scale this translates to RPM of 0-???

motorise atlas editions 1:87 locomotive ?

Did anyone try to motorise an atlas editions 1:87 locomotive?
I wonder if there is any room inside to fit a motor.
Not talking about the wooden plinth mounted steam ones but the ones on the plastic track like the one below.

Re: Cheap as chips Mehano on Amazon

Somebody must be dumping old stock at Amazon because they have been selling Mehano HO stuff for what seems like less than cost... Boxed new large Refrigerated wagons for £4. The full Ouigo TGV set for £39. Obviously far from high end stuff but at these prices I can tinker! can't find the wagons. pe...

Re: Ebay purchases - the perils ...

exactly as in my example:
Swiss lima set advertised as "new" and it was on a display only. received with worn out gears, cracked body, broken chassis. paint chipped.
the photos were intentionally blurry to cover up the botch repairs with epoxy.

in the end i received .... an apology

Re: Ebay purchases - the perils ...

I have to say I always try to buy from a non-enthusiast if at all possible. People with no knowledge are more likely to sell a bargain with just a broken wire or just plain clogged up with dirt, while your enthusiast will know if the motor is kaput or something major is wrong and is probably trying...

be aware of fake websites "selling" Vollmer Faller etc. OO HO models

I thought that I warn you guys. Have been scammed of some $43 recently and despite paypal payment, I can't recover the money. The crooks use clever mechanics and hacked paypal accounts. The order is marked with two weeks dispatch which gives them enough time to move the funds elsewhere. Regardless, ...

Re: Ebay purchases - the perils ...

I made several ebay UK purchases recently. Several major issues with the locos and rolling stock. Often repair not economical. I learned that buying from anybody else than an enthusiast is a gamble. Inherited, found in loft, house clearance - all risky. Unfortunately, many 'sellers' disguise faults ...
