Re: Steam Train strafed by aircraft in WW2

That sounds like the source of the information I recall. The British 303 (rifle ammunition) aircraft machine gun wouldn't do the job, unsurprising as the loco boiler was necessarily built to much the same standard as applied to pre-war tank designs, and armoured cars throughout that war. And of cou...

Re: Steam Train strafed by aircraft in WW2

During the ll WW the North Pembrokeshire line was extensively used by both the RAF and the USAF to evaluate the use of weapons. One thing they did was to bring an LNER Locomotive No 1241 to Puncheston paint it white and use it for target practice. Then in June1944 they used an Aberdare class 2-6-0 N...

Hope the exhibition goes well, will you be doing a writeup for those that live to far away to attend?

Re: Hamdden Railway Co. 00 7'x6'

Thanks for the continued feedback Mounting much appreciated, I’ll spread that lot out to dry in the workshop and let the creatures have time to get out.
Will write something up explaining how I made the point controls, there are now nine points using the system.

Re: Hamdden Railway Co. 00 7'x6'

Thinking about gathering up stuff for scenery, heard mention of tree moss and lichen being useful? Could see some at the top of my two Ash Trees but I’m to ancient to climb that high. Garden 052.jpg So got out my old chain saw, (I’ve owned it 30 years and it was old when I bought it) and felled the ...

Pulling up a chair for a front row seat on this one, look forward to following your progress on the project as I have the same engine.

Re: Backscenes

Don’t know a lot about model railways but I do know a bit about painting :). Best thing is to look at the rail thing, the sky and clouds if you like the prototype!. If you go outside you’ll notice that the sky is a dome not flat like we see in a photo. Also the clouds are three dimensional. If the s...

Re: railway history

Talking about early railways don’t forget Cosher Bailey and his engine that could do four miles an hour!

Crawshay Bailey had an Engine
It was always needin' mendin'
And dependin' on its power
It could do four miles an hour.

Good for you, it’s always good to hear of a new shed! :) You can save your self a lot of money by scratch building the shed. Most of the commercially available sheds are built down to a price and they use lightweight scantlings and you get a pretty rickety affair. This is built out of readily availa...

Re: Garden Shed wire up.....

Probably in the New Year I will be putting in a garden shed for my layout. So wiring it up to the mains electric supply. Fusebox? Mains cable? Or is there an easier route? (still maintaining safety standards).   40 years ago I wired my house and workshop myself now in the UK that’...

A unique layout I enjoy looking in on it and finding all the small details, what business is going on in those sheds. :)

Re: Hamdden Railway Co. 00 7'x6'

So another update this time working on the points. Bought some black plastic card and used that to pack out the points and keep the wheels under control as they transition the frogs on the curved points. This has worked well, especially with the 2-6-2 Prairie. The 0-6-0 tank still gave problems till...
