Re: 3D printed King's Cross Station circa 1990-2010
In case you don't know which bits are which, here's a quick image I scrounged off the web :) BTW, Platform 0 is the new one, under the Eastern Range. And the suburban station (or Shared Services Yard?) on the West side is actually off the bottom of this image - you can see the entrance to the three ...

Re: 3D printed King's Cross Station circa 1990-2010
Thanks guys, I'll hopefully get some time over the weekend to get some more done on this! Next up are the Central and Western support columns in the main shed, and the window panels over the arches. Then I'll move on to the sections between the support columns, and I really want to make all the ligh...

Re: 3D printed King's Cross Station circa 1990-2010
Technically the main shed has three different types of supports East, Mid and West and I've only designed one (East) so far, but I couldn't resist assembling this

Re: 3D printed King's Cross Station circa 1990-2010
Thanks Mark! Now that I've got the scaling issue sorted out, progress has been pretty good over the last few days. After a marathon design effort last night, and another 14 hour print, here's the latest update :) Some minor adjustments to the alignment marks on the trusses, the Eastern wall supports...

Re: 3D printed King's Cross Station circa 1990-2010
Hot off the press... Well, technically still a little damp, in reality ;) My old attempt and the much higher detail, vastly more accurate, new one. Yes, they are different styles, but that's because there are two different types of arched truss used in the station :) Also, one of the corrected suppo...

Re: 3D printed King's Cross Station circa 1990-2010
So, a quick update - I've been asking around on a variety of forums for reference materials to help me with the correct scaling, and Mike over on RMWeb was able to give me a hand - resulting in me realigning my drawings from the ground up. I should also mention that his skills at making the main arc...

Re: Help: Kings Cross Reference Material
That's a great thread, with lots of useful reference pictures of the facilities all around the KX area. Thanks for the link Jim! I have already resurrected this thread over there , and that has spawned some interesting email results from one of the members. I have to say, I'm really grateful to all ...

Re: Help: Kings Cross Reference Material
Thanks for the link Bigmet, I'll go ask some of my Q's over there too :) The story about Rowling's confusion is really interesting. Never knew about the red train divisions until now. Learn something new every day, eh? I had noticed that the route out of KX doesn't get any modern opportunity to cros...

Help: Kings Cross Reference Material
Hi everyone, I'm currently designing an N-gauge model of King's Cross station from around the 1990's , but being in the US its rather difficult for me to just pop over there and take photos, particularly with this COVID19 lockdown in place, so I wanted to ask everyone here if they have any photo's o...

Re: 3D printed King's Cross Station circa 1990-2010
So, some good news and bad news. First, three good images showing progress: We have the template for the main train shed brick supports along the Eastern edge of KX Platform 1. If you look closely you should be able to see some of the individual bricks, which are all patterned accurately. Two small ...

Fold-away Buildings
When I was growing up, back in the 80's, I had a Hornby 00 layout and a relative bought me a pack of light cardstock town buildings (houses, fire station, church etc) that I assembled, that had the wonderful feature of being able to fold down flat even after assembly - which made them perfect to sto...
