Re: Wanton Vandalism of layouts

Very sad. In the USA it is usually expected that the club/primary host for an event like this will provide an overnight watchman (volunteer club member with an airhorn, cellphone, etc. {and being the USA,sometimes a gun}). While I don't support the gun bit, I believe it prudent for any trademen or ...

Re: Sea Foam Trees

I must look into growing sea foam. I use moss from the garden, and whatever the roots were that my missus dug up a few weeks ago, which I grabbed. After that she brought a whole bag of the stuff. I am drying it in my shed, ready for tree making. I also make my own scatter from carefully sieved sawdu...

Re: 14XX axle box/springs

The plastic ones would have done the trick, but in the meantime I spoke to Andrew at Wizard, and he said he had the axle boxes, even though I searched the Wizard list on the internet and couldn't find any.
He sent me a complete list of products so that is good.

4mm drawing for 28XX

I wonder if anyone can help with a 4mm drawing for a GW 28XX. I have searched, and can't find anything. It must be a 28XX not a 2884 with later cab etc.. It used to be easy to get drawings many years ago, I could go into Eames in Reading and order a Skinley drawing no probs, but now nobody has even ...

Re: 14XX axle box/springs

I have looked at Wizards list couldn't see any specifically for the 14XX, but there are various gwr tender axleboxes, which I think I could use if I extend the spring hangers.
Thank you for the suggestion Jim.

Re: Airbrush kits

It depends what you need the airbrush for... If it is for full spray jobs on coaches, locos etc, then probably go for a well known make. I used to build model aeroplanes years ago, so had a Badger, can't remember the model, but it was a good one. I sold it with loads of other stuff when my marriage ...

Re: 14XX axle box/springs

I have found some axle boxes amongst my bits and pieces, I will make some springs and hangers if I have no luck with castings.

Where can I get cast white metal Axle boxes & springs for 14XX trailing wheels, I am building a chassis for. I have searched and cannot find anyone to supply them. I can't believe nobody makes them....

Re: Wagon Wheels

I have a small Unimat lathe, and am able to re profile wagon and coach wheels to get pretty much the same profile on all of them. I have made a means of holding wheelsets between the chuck and tailstock. I have even managed to re profile Lima pizza cutter coach wheels to an acceptable profile for wa...

Re: what do you hope to achieve from your model railway?

I agree also with what you say.. What I hope to achieve is a certain degree of realism. For example I cannot bear to see enormous gaps between coaches and wagons, Ultra tight curves with coaches overhanging the track on the inside of the curve, Coaches that are a scale 2 or three feet out of line wi...

Re: Dapol OO Gauge GWR Large Prairie & GWR Mogul.

We have heard the grand total of nothing regarding these models for months now, and Hornby have announced their own model of the large prairie. I honestly believe that we will never see any of these ! With this in mind I am forgetting about them , and going back to my original plan of kit building t...
