Are you committed to the Hornby Fowler 4P? IMO Its a poor runner. At least mine is. Its been relegated to the back of the drawer while my Bachmann equivalents, an Ivatt and a Fairburn are much better runners.
I always wondered how long those red locos stayed that colour.

Re: Cliches of Layouts or Model Railways that you dislike.
Now that was a fine layout, no doubt.

But it is typical of so many where nothing is happening. Where are all the people doing stuff? Cars? Animals?
An example of cliche.

Re: Does anyone use Solderstick?
Thanks guys. The alternatives to soldering seem to be endless. Hadn't considered them before. Am still in the 1950's with this stuff, but going to do a big re-wire as I extend my layout.

Re: Does anyone use Solderstick?
I am faced with the problem of putting bus wires in where they don't currently exist, which means crawling under the tables and in some awkward places overhead soldering, so figured solderstick might be handy.

Any good? I'm guessing that for a T connection you could stick 2 ends into one end of the connector?

Re: Anyone currently buying?
Interestingly my supplier who was selling the $600 type 37 had a lot of stock of all new tooling Bachmann diesels at ridiculous prices. He started an "overstocked" sale, reducing the price to $399, and sold the 3 he had in stock. Hobbytech, Perth WA.

Re: Anyone currently buying?
Nah. Not $600. That was the singing dancing bells and whistles edition. I got the poverty pack Black Friday version at $380 which I think is double what I've ever paid for a loco before. But I have to say that the detail is the best I've seen. Windscreen wipers and little lights. It towed my 15 carr...

Re: Anyone currently buying?
Oh dear. Yes. Sometimes temptation gets in the way. And what is all this Black Friday nonsense. Black Friday is Friday 13th. No more, no less. Except when shopping takes precedence. (sigh) OK. I bought one of these. New. I hate myself. How could I spend that much? ("What do you want for Christm...

Re: Thankyou for Allowing Me Aboard This Train
Welcome, Martin.
I can't remember hearing the trains near Fallowfield and West Didsbury where I misspent my student years. I do remember listening to John Mayall's "Catch that train" which of course you may consider as a soundtrack too.

Re: Wykeham - Somewhere in the South.
This is a great thread. I have just revisited it in its entirety, only to find I had already said I was impressed on page 15. Well I'm still impressed. It sort of feels like home to me, in spite of the green carriages. Its the weeds in the (slightly random) ballast, which I find utterly realistic to...

Re: Bachmann LMS Compound
Thanks Richard. That review confuses the hell out of me. I have a challenging layout, and I'll probably hold off buying. Someone else might jump in and buy it anyway. its $299 Au$ here, which is 150 quid in Uk. Prob priced right here.

https://i84.servimg.com/u/f84/19/47/34/52/bac31-10.jpg I've been looking at getting one of these because it would be a superb fit for my layout. There's one at a shop locally, and I haven't bought a new loco for ages. But the reviews are poor. Its no use to me at all if it can't climb my Shap Fell,...

https://i84.servimg.com/u/f84/19/47/34/52/jb18_310.jpg Fossicking around in the basement of my local emporium I came across no less than 3 Ribble Burlingham Swallows, bnib, and no price on them. Not what you'd expect here in the antipodes. I made a lowball offer to the shopkeeper who was busy with ...
