Re: Runaways & Unresponsive Points! Help!

Hornby decoders - if these are the old R8215 as often found in DCC Fitted locos then they are prone to runaway and memory loss after a short. Best replaced with something better. Points - how did you set up the accessory decoder addresses. With the Select they must be addressed in the range 60-99 b...

Re: Runaways & Unresponsive Points! Help!

Thank you for your suggestions folks, sorry for not replying sooner. I’ve disabled the dc operation on the select and whilst things worked well for about 10 minutes or so, it hasn’t gone away. The points are still unresponsive but on a positive note the locos can be controlled most of the time, the ...

Re: Readers Halt

Also, a quick photo of the conversion fitted to my old Hornby 125 unit. Hoping to do an LED conversion to the lights next. I'm just about to do the same and found these (also in warm white) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-HST-LED-Lighting-Upgrade-Kit-New-Version-Updated-Design/251999154032?ssPage...

Re: Runaways & Unresponsive Points! Help!

You could try fitting filters (often referred to as terminators) to your track. These can easily be made yourself from a resistor and a capacitor, or they are available to buy. I’ll give that a try, thanks. I unplugged the controller and gave it a bit of a shake and a thump just out of curiosity an...

Re: Runaways & Unresponsive Points! Help!

Your local model shop may have a rolling road and alternative controller they can test it with for you? Or a local model rail club perhaps? Thanks End2end Local club probably, the local model shop to me doesn't do DCC, maybe I should just bite the bullet and invest in eLink, that was the long term ...

No, I don't have another unfortunately. I take it there is no way to test it unless it's on another layout?

Runaways & Unresponsive Points! Help!

I have done lots of reading on this but I'm lost. All of my locos are runaways it seems! The issue began with one or two of them randomly taking off at speed before calming down again. The problem gradually got worse and now they all do it. At no stage can they be controlled aside from switching lig...

Re: Readers Halt

Are you using a dropper for the glue or just spraying over all? I had been spraying over all but had the rails covered and was cleaning as I went. I've since used a dropper. It seems I must have missed a few spots though. Since my last post the odd spell of run away trains has now become the norm. ...

Re: Readers Halt

Been spending some time ballasting the yard, laying some road and adding more trees and hedges, but more importantly, the reborn "Royal Scot" has been earning its keep! https://preview.ibb.co/f8rURd/18_A4_BA74_76_F2_43_B5_97_A7_F464_F9_F9_CD53.jpg Still having trouble from glueing down the...

Re: Readers Halt

The issue with adding trees and bushes etc is that there is very little room, maybe 30cm, to squeeze through between the wall and the board and so adding anything that has the potential to catch on clothes etc and get torn off makes me loathe to add to it. How about a large tree lying on it's side ...

Re: Readers Halt

Today I managed to get an hour and got merry with the weathering paints! For weathering I have been using some of the warhammer paints as they are all water based and make for easy clean up. Anyway, the tunnel ends now all have had some weathering and the photos really do not do them any justice, th...

Re: Readers Halt

Finally got some time to work on the layout and after spending a few hours of tidying here and there I managed to get the remainder of the outside part of the track laid with scatter. https://preview.ibb.co/eVXRLJ/06_EA7730_74_CA_4134_84_C6_B14_BA7_A640_A6.jpg https://preview.ibb.co/hg18Zd/6_EFCA409...

Rolling stock

Forgive me but I can't seem to find an answer to this, it's more a curiosity than anything really. I recently bought an S&DJR liveried 0-6-0 that I'm rather happy with. https://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mtacrP9idpH_RlBKvhAtO_g.jpg I have it pulling mk2 rolling stock, the first of the mk2s ...
