Re: Hattons closing down

This was a bit of a shock but, having said that, perhaps not much of a surprise. I could never understand how they kept winning the award for best Model Shop in my magazine bearing in mind they did not stock Bachmann. My own experience of Hattons was unsatisfactory. I bought a locomotive from a spli...

Re: Anyone currently buying?

The odd loco that looks nice and is within my time period I will buy. However there is a limit and the lovely Dapol Class D at £324.99 is well beyond it. Wagons and carriages definitely not. Once you put a newly produced wagon/carriage with all its extra detail on a set it will probably show the res...

Wonderful! Just what I needed. :D

Thanks very much, Kebang, for taking all this trouble for me. I can now begin to make progress.

Help! Please salvage my wasted week

I have been trying to plan a layout using the dreadful RailModeller Pro and have managed to identify numerous problems with IT's :x design but without managing to achieve anything regarding my design. All I want to do is bring 6 parallel tracks (my loco depot) down to 2 in the shortest possible spac...

Re: RailModeller Pro and Flexitrack curves

Thanks Bigmet. Yes it is Mac based, one of the few available from what I can make out. The idea of searching for a Mac user group is a good one. Jan, the designer also has a forum which I had a look at but couldn't find anything. Probably worth another look and a post there too. I really don't know ...

RailModeller Pro and Flexitrack curves

I have been struggling to get RailModeller Pro to design me a layout with curves to achieve an oval. It is possible if you keep changing the arc angle but this is a bit like trying to get the paint off the Forth Rail Bridge with a sandpaper block. Is there anybody out there who has discovered an eas...

Re: Heritage plan- Update 9/6/22

Thanks to the original poster and all those members who have contibuted ideas and tips.

You would not believe how useful it has been to me in sorting out some basic ideas for my layout

I have looked at the Peco Setrack plans but they miss out important stuff like avoiding curved points.

Should Hornby packaging contain a "Hazard to your pocket" warning?

Last week I finally created a rough layout after many years. I have been testing a number of loco's which have been on my shelf waiting for the big day. I have tested over a dozen locos. Only Hornby stuff has caused trouble. To date I have found bits of foam stuck in hidden places on 2 engines. In o...

Re: Woodland Scenics foam sheets baseboard

Thanks Flashbang.

Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, the traditional wood and plywood baseboard construction is not an option.

This method of using foam provides me with a way of having some kind of layout

I know it's not perfect but beggars can't be choosers.

Woodland Scenics foam sheets baseboard

Has anybody out there made a layout with WS 2inch thick sheets as the baseboard. I have seen their videos but point motors and other wiring info seems largely ignored. I am going to have a go but before I start there is the question of point motors to sort out. I have a couple of ideas picked up fro...

Re: Model Rail magazine - Deal or No Deal? A Warning

Further refinement: dependent on how many previous issues you can access, look to see if there is any pattern in their deals for new subscribers. (A library that takes a magazine can be good for this if they keep a few year's copies archived.) Good idea Bigmet. I spend most of my work time reading ...

Model Rail magazine - Deal or No Deal? A Warning

Have just found something interesting  about taking out out a subscription to this magazine which I feel others might be interested in. Here's the background. I have just taken out a new subscription and in the meantime have been looking at back issues from my last subscription which ended in...

Thanks Brian. That's very useful.

Now all I need to do is find a Rolling Road supplier.

How do you incorporate somewhere to run in locos without a circle?

I am still trying to figure out how to design a layout which includes an area to run in new locomotives and now I've discovered it's recommended that before attempting to run a loco on the layout it needs to be placed on a programming track. To quote the DCC Decoder; This is always a good idea as th...
