Re: Financial Woes Continue
The problem with Hornby Is they have to many eggs in the basket, they need to dump the foreign brands and do what they do best making British models, I also think with so many new players in the OO gauge game it may be that they are struggling to compete, if they cant handle the heat it may be time ...

Re: Individuality of Expression.
Many things come into play creating an individual and different layout, some, some of the best layouts I have seen where built on a very limited budget but by doing that more creative effort was needed to acheive a first class result, it seems to me that some of the best modelling has been done by u...

Re: Hornby in the news today
If Hornby stopped supplying box shifters they may as well give the game away, no one pays RRP for model railway products, to be honest there has been so much debate over the future of Hornby I wish they would vanish, its not that long ago that they were still peddling antique locos and rolling stock...

Re: Hornby in the news today
Crikey I thought the DC v DCC debate was dead and buried how wrong I was, I had a DCC layout for a while and really enjoyed it, no knob twiddling just punching a number in and turning a knob, I decided to switch from OO gauge to American N scale DC run but quickly got bored with that so decided to m...

Re: Hornby in the news today
Hornby are a lot less relevant today because of models being released by DJ, Oxford and Hattons, all releasing models that people have been pleading with Hornby to make for years, maybe Hornby have made one or two many Mallards and Flying Scotsman locos which seem to have been the main stay of Hornb...

Re: Hornby in the news today
I always thought the object of owning and building a model railway was to enjoy playing trains, I can remember getting my first train set way back in 1955 when I got a Hornby Dublo Duchess of Atholl set, back then I cant remember anyone of my trainspotting mates that ever bought model trains to stic...

Re: Hornby in the news today
For me the object of being a model railway fan is first and foremost to have fun and rekindle my chilhood days growing up with British steam trains, over the years I tried N and HO gauge layouts but finished up with my first love OO Gauge, having spent a small fortune on the hobby over a 35 year per...

Re: Hornby in the news today
I may get myself in trouble for my comment on this topic but I blame the modellers and model railway press for people losing interest or giving the hobby a miss, the continual pressure placed on manufacturers / importers to add more detail to locomotives and rolling stock has been responsible for th...

Re: Jubliee 45690
Ah Leander the old beauty, as a young boy growing up in Longbridge near the Austin Motor Factory I used to see that engine just about every time I went trainspotting, the groan from my self and a few mates was "oh no not Leander again", thank goodness for New Street Station and Tamworth so...

Re: Few newbie questions
Yes its probably better to lean it against the wall that way you dont have to lift it, I dont like the idea of hanging it which sounds a bit dangerous, I also like the Hornby track mat idea as mentioned earlier, as for buildings stations etc I would go with the various Hornby track mat accessories w...

Re: Individuality of Expression.
Not everything has been done before, I remember watching a video where the modeller made the spokes on his bycicle wheel out of his own hair, now thats what I call different. I stopped looking at super detailed layouts some time back as I am one old fiddle that cant play a new tune, I dont have an a...

Re: Brothers, please forgive me for I have sinned by speculating.
My own golden rules for this hobby are Buy second hand  Buy for yourself 8) The hobby is way to expensive as it is so why try and screw fellow modellers by speculating. Try and do as many things yourself by scratch building  Don't spend any more than you have to. :o All the Bes...

Re: Wordsworth Card Kits - FREE downloads
My use of Mikes kits on my fictitious N Gauge layout, as you can see the locomotives are American but as I got bored with US model railroading decided to give them a spray of British Green paint, as for the kits they were all printed to 55% of the originals, still lots of work to be done on this lay...
